85 302 CFI to Carb

hey guys i have a question that i know one of you are going to be able to answer. I want to make my 85 302 CFI carbarated, and i also want to be smog legal.i plan on using all smog equipment, but i was wondering since my 85 mustang came stock with CFI, if i were to go with a street legal carb and intake, if my 302 would still be smog legal? the MT 302's came stock with 4 BBL holleys, and the AT 302's came with crap CFI. can i go to carb and be street legal in california???

The manual tranny 85 HO's came carbed - so there might be room to wiggle if you set it up like that. But you're asking the wrong people - you need to be directing your questions to the folks in CA that are actually gonna inspect your car. Doesn't really matter much what we tell you.
