I converted my 89 EFI motor to carb and used the stock pump drive rod. I got an 85 distributor and the shaft below the gear is shorter than the stock one. The old one was 1.5" and the 85 is 1". With the stock rod it only goes 5/16" into the distributor shaft. That doesnt seem like very much and Im concerned. Im trying to figure out if this is how the 85's were and its fine or if I got the wrong distributor or what. I thought that maybe they use a longer rod in 85 but I have an extra 85 motor and lookong down in the hole it doesnt look like it extends any further up than the one in the 89. I need to know for sure what Im looking at here, if I need to pull the motor back out and change the rod or what. If somebody has an 85 distributor tht they could look at and see if it is the same length so that I know I got the right one that would be great.
