85 GT, Bad Gas Mileage

I just tuned my car up with new ford racing 9mm wires, new plugs, new distributer cap and rotor, pcv valve and i have a fuel filter that I still have to put in. Right now my car is running great except the oil leak from the pan. I am only getting 11.8 mpg though. What is going on here?

I forgot to mention that the car also has a new K&N filter, is a 5 speed, and recently passed emissions with flying colors.

If it's 3/4 on the guage, it's not actually 3/4 in the tank. Mine goes WAY past the full mark until you can't even see it. But yeah, carbureted cars don't get the greatest mileage.....mine sucks too. If I do all city driving I usually get around 220-240 km to a tank.

taking on that subject. I got an EFI 87 and get 170 miles to the tank unitl it reaches the last 1/4. I do some pretty granny driving. 2 miles down the road and same back 5 days a week. The remaining 2 days go maybe total of 40 miles at about higway speed 50-75. For an average of 60 miles a week total. I am dumbfounded as to why so much gas.

Easy, if all you do is go 2 miles down the road, then your car is in open loop all the time. Considering you never get to closed loop or even get the engine anywhere near warmed up, you gas goes straight out the tailpipes :)

I have a 85gt carbed too. I get about 21 on the HW and 16-17 city. I also get about 250 miles to the tank and thats leaving about 2 gal.s in I dont run it to the bottom. You should be getting well over 11mpg. Is your idle gettin stuck or something? What are your rpms around during normal driving? Good Luck.
