Hey guys.. question, did the 85's come out the with the e7 heads? I cant find a casting number.. the valve covers were stamped e4 though? Im asking because i noticed that when i took my heads off, the exhaust ports were p/p, the springs were a metallic blue color - didnt think those were original, it had rr's (how to tell what ratio?) and the valves looked big.. i measured them to be 1.84" and 1.55" or 1.6" .. this isnt stock size it is? i thought that was gt40 head valve sizes??

85 heads I believe are E5. E6 for 86 and E7 for '87. Your 1.84 and 1.60 are GT40 valve sizes, and your heads wont be that big if they are stock. Sounds like you have a blessing in disguise.. :nice:

The casting number isn't viewable from the top of the engine. It on the deck surface, between two pushrod holes on an intake port (#2/#7).

How'd you measure the intake valve diameter? I hope with a dial-caliper, preferably one with a digital readout. Because it's going to be awefully hard to distinguish six-hundreths of an inch with a ruler (stock heads have 1.78" int. valves).
