Engine 86 Capri, Re-EFI?

Guys,
I'm the owner of a one family 86 Capri. In about '96 I installed a crate 351W, and because of my tight budget at the time, converted to a carburetor and ditched the EFI. I'm considering a turbo or supercharger set up on this car but I'm really thinking that it would be much more steetable and tunable if it were EFI again. I'm not sure if the wiring harness from the car is still at my parents garage or if it has been long since thrown out. What would it cost for me to set the car back up with an improved mass air system? Estimated cost for wiring harness, injectors, upper and lower intake, throttle body, cpu, etc...

You could go with a stand alone system that uses it's own harness, i.e. Holley HP, Pro M , Fast etc.
I would guess with one of those systems plus all the other components like intake, injectors and so on
you'd probably be in the $2-4k range. Some of these systems can be set-up to run speed density or
maf, your decision.


If you have or can get a harness then you could go with a plug and play system like Pimp, Megaquirt or
even an old PMS. This would arguably be the cheaper route but you'll still need all the supporting mods.

If you don't know or don't want to learn how to tune these ECUs then factor in the price of a good tuner.

The harness all by itself is around $600 I think. You are probably looking at between 2k-3k if you do the wrenching. I did the conversion myself to a 3.8 cfi car. I used Ford M-12071-A50 harness and an A9L computer. You might want to consider that not being as streetable as you like may have nothing to do with efi. My car is streetable because it has a stock mustang roller cam in the 351 engine.

Then there is always the option of saving all of the hassle and expense, and just buy a blow through carburetor. If you'll look into it, you'll find that there are several guys running a BT carb on the street w/o any issues. If you are comfortable with a carb and know how to change out the jets, that's all you'll really have to mess with to get your afr's right.
A Quick fuel Q ban 750 is a hell of a lot cheaper than a whole EFI conversion.
