I replaced my heater core today " dang what a pain" while taking out the dash the old brittle plastic couldnt take it anymore and pieces just kept breaking and cracking. So now I'm considering just a dash conversion. What all do I need to do to complete the swap "beside a new dash and gauge cluster" and also do I need to rewire for the AC/Heater controls and lights etc...

it's a pain in the arse. you will need the complete dash wiring harness from the donor car, as well as the dash itself (obviously). the actual mounting of the dash isn't hard, but re-wiring it is.

Lemme tell you this much, I have 2 identical 79 cars. One has air, one does not. I was gonna switch it from my drag car to my restored car. Had both dashes, boxes, etc out on the floor. The wiring sucks, the harness goes clear out to the headlamps, did you notice your headlamps are differant from the 87-93 cars? Mine were the same and still sucked. I went to put the heater boxe from the non air into the air car, and holey 'Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me''Kiss Me' the fire wall holes were completely differant, even the screw holes! I put it all back. Screw that, you would have to really really want it. I wouldn't try it without having a complete donor car. You got to do console, shifter, column, everything. Sorry if I burst your bubble, just my opinion.

OMG! well forget that idea. looks like its Epoxy time for the old dash! I mean if the car was down for a few weeks I wouldnt care but thats a lot of work and i'm not fond with wiring anyway. This guy did an awesome job on his 86 GT converting the dash and also rebuilding the car.
