the diff has been swapped according to you guys, I guess thats why the bolts that attach the diff, but not the control arms to chassis came off, the others were well seized.

Pop the cover off it the ring gear will be stamped or like 90 said mark the rotor at the top and the pinion at the top and turn the rotor slowly one turn and count the times the pinion turns will get you close, if you want to get real close turn the rotor 10 rotations while someone else counts the turns on the pinion, gets you a better count.

Brake rotor, turn the brake rotor and count the pinion rotations, or open the dif cover and look at the ring gear for gear ratio
To much math involved using the rotor in the distributor.

Ohhhh!!.......... Brake "rotor"......

Now I get it..

I Was thinking that you were calling the ring gear a rotor when you said to open the diff cover and turn the rotor.

Nevermind..

It's ok, your similar to that annoying shop teacher that wacks students when they get out of line but they all like him anyway

Still a nice score either way. I'd just pop the cover and see what's stamped on the ring gear. You're going to need to do this anyway to check out what's inside before you install it.

Hate to put it in and find out it's trashed.

Driver side of the differential housing there is a "casting" (engineering) number and a date code. That will tell you what it was originally engineered (designed) for and when the housing was cast.

My bet is the engineering number is E6SW and the date code starts with 7 or 8.

Door tag code "AX" is "R" which means 3.45:1 w/ Traction-Lok. That's a 7.5" gear ratio. Closest ratio that is for an 8.8" is 3.55:1.

In other words, the rear you pulled from the 1986 TC is not original.

Mark and count the teeth on the ring gear...then count the teeth on the pinion gear. Divide the ring number of teeth by the pinion number. That will give you the gear ratio.
