Neither my old 90' GT nor my current 91' LX had locking fuel door. I didn't even know it existed. Rescently, my brother in law who has a 89' LX asked me if I knew how to fix his locking door. I was like "what do you mean, locking door???" It turned out that his car did have a locking door and the realease for it was broken and he had to open the trunk and pull on the cable every time he had to get gas. I looked at the locking mechanism on the fuel door and told him that we could just remove the two bolts and the latch would come right off and his door would be non-locking. He agreed, so we did it. I went over to my car to compare the difference in doors and his door has two threaded holes on the inside where the latch mounts. My door has dimples in the metal where screw holes would be, but no holes. So if you wanted to use some locking door parts to convert a non-locking door to a locking door, you would have to drill and thread holes in the door. Seems tricky and risky to me.
The locking gas cap sounds like a better option, if you really need your cap to lock.

I've never heard of anyone stealing gas from anyone, unless you have people after you, or live where people would put stuff or something in your tank then get the door lock, and the locking cap.

BlackFox, i tossed the former in for fun. you might not be old enough to remember the oil crunch in the 70's. and with gas prices today goin as they are, who knows. LOL.

the latter is the reason i assumed that the original poster wanted to do it. never know when you will make someone mad at work or an apartment (if applicable). i run them on cars with no locking doors. piece of mind.

Getting a locking gas-cap is a good idea if you don't or can't install the locking door set-up.

I live up here in Toronto Canada and if you can recall there was a huge blackout all along the North Eastern Coast last July. The blackout included all of Ontario, NY, Mass, Ohio, some of Quebec, etc etc etc.

Here in the city, the blackout made pumping gas a problem as the pumps are all electronic and stuff, so people were going to parked cars at night and syphoning gas. During the 2 day blackout there was a reported 6 people who ended up in the hospital with gasoline poisoning and a lot of people were going to their cars and finding out upon start-up that their tanks were empty.

Get a locking cap at least.

I bought a locking cap at Autozone. Don't remember how much it was, but less than 10bucks I'm sure
