Hello all. l just picked up an 87 red auto coupe from 2nd owner. The interior is kind of odd. lt has no center console. The hand brake has a factory looking boot over it sewed right into carpet and where the shifter is is just a little high rise platform made from same material as dash pad no bigger than the square factory auto gear indicator. Person l got it from said it was like that when he got it and he asked the original owner and he said it came that way. l have never seen this before. Does anyone have any ideas? l have some good pics of it and the door tag but dont know if l can upload here or how

I cant say I have ever seen it from the factory, but I deleted the console in my '95, and again in my '86. I just use a boot and billet trim ring right on the floor.

I've seen that done. Shift boots over the E-brake and shifter, and the radio moved up, no HVAC system. Looks rather clean if you ask me. Really no reason why not.

There was no console delete for the aero cars....at some point, someone modified the interior.

Pics would help though

EDIT: Forgot to add, early fox mustangs did have the option of having no console

I agree. It is custom though, and tastefully done custom.

I agree with keeping it, that interior looks very nice.

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

Again, sorry for the late reply. Well now that AT&T " downsized " me right out of a job after 19 1/2 yrs of service, l am going back to working on cars. l have owned/building the 5.0's since 85 but only as a hobby. Now im trying to do it as a sorce of income with mixed results. l need to put a few more finishing touches on the red coupe with the interior you see in the pics, and l will post the before and after pics in the photo bucket

OK, car is pretty much done. l will continue to do little things and tinker on it. Check the photobucket again guys. Many more pics. The car isnt perfect but very clean, straight, mechanically sound, never abused and can be driven anywhere. Oh yeah, AC works now too
