87 gt whats it worth

So im looking at buying this 87 GT it has 119k. He says its pretty stock which is what im looking for. he says it comes with a rebuilt 306. just trying to figure out what its worth. He says its for sale on craigslist for 4500 but i couldnt find it. (he answered my ad) i asked him to email it to me and he said he had to remake it so im getting the feeling he might over value it on the ad to try to pull the wool over my eyes. just trying to get an idea of what its worth. here are pics.

If it's truely rust free in and out through and through, and has been looked over machanically by a pro, might be worth that. Miles are high, so hard to believe doesn't have any issues.

4500 with a fresh 306 is fair.

providing that paint isnt hiding anything nasty that looks like a 4500 dollar car.

Judging by that engine compartment, there is no 306 inside there.

Looks like he started converting the interior to black too.

It would appear to need body work and paint. Hood looks unpainted and doesn't seem to line up well, then you have the yellow coming through the bumper trim. Fender and door look like 2 different colors.

So $4500 is steep.
I'm thinking more like $2500.

Anyone can fix and replace the mechanical parts, relatively cheap, but if a car needs body work that you have to pay for, it adds up really quick.

no it comes with a 306 the one in there is a 302 i would guess

These sorts of threads are permitted because it's a car he is looking at buying and is asking for help to not get screwed.




With that said, I would not pay $4500 for that car. There are some body lines that make me a little suspect. As well as some traces of damage to front bumper and side skirt falling off. Need more pics.

I'm thinking $3000 car tops

May I offer a tip? I buy cars for just about everyone in my family so I have bought a few.
When I decide to buy a car and I know what I want to pay I make a real offer.
I hand them cash and say, "count this,, Then I got a question for you" It's hard to hand the money back after they play with it---if it is a fair offer--Or even a little bit low.
If you don't use cash you didn't make an offer you just inquired. When there done just ask "will that buy the car or are we all done?" Then be quite don't speak till after they do.
It's the silent close. The one that speaks first usually looses -- quite effective
I sold cars for a few years and did fairly well

Something else if you want to pop there bubble without looking like a rude person,,, Walk around the car
when you see a bad spot --look at it touch it and don't say a word. They will usually jump and start talking and
devalue the car all by there self ---you don't want to tick them off if your going to be dealing with them.

well the thing is is im working on a trade with this person so the cash thing isnt possible. Ive never done this with buying a car though and its a great idea. thanks for the advice though and the value.
