I can get a 86 turbo coupe motor and 5 speed for $400. I have an 87 n/a and would like to swap both in. I need to know what parts I would need. The motor and trans are still assembled and attached. I would be pulling my stock stuff atached and putting these in attached. I know I need the VAM and intercooler. But is there a list of parts I would need to get everything installed?

Will need downpipe from turbo. Save your fuel rail from the Mustang. The 86 is differant. Get the Map/Bap sensor from the turbo car. Some say same as yours some some say differant. I side on maybe differant so why not get it and install. Reuse motor mounts from the Mustang. Will need to convert to serpentine belt. The 86 is v-belt type. As far as clutch hook up. Don't know so leave this to someone else. I would save my Mustang intake. It has a intake air sensor. If you upgrade to 87-88 computer/ big vam etc later you will need that sensor to hook up.

I may have found a better solution. There is someone selling what looks like an 87 turbo coupe on craigslist for the same price as the motor and trans I found. They say it runs. It looks like hell, but all I want are the motor, trans, computer and all the other swap parts. Hopefully they email me back and it is a turbo coupe. If so I'm buying another car tomorrow and starting the swap next weekend.

87 turbocoupe is a higher hp turbo motor. Better computer, vam etc. Only bad thing is IHI turbo. Can't be boosted past 20psi near as I can remember. Only building heat then and is overspeeded. But face it most of us won't go that high unless major modification. Head porting, etc.
