my girl has a new to her 88gt 5.0 on short trips it is fine but she drove it today on some long errands and it falls on its face and chokes itself out after a while....she waited and i guess it cooled off and it ran fine til it got almost home, then it did it again. when it dies and chokes out it will turn over but wont catch and run on it's on.....if u let it sit i will start and drive til after a while again... any ideas on the cause this will be her only car here shortly so i gotta have it running perfect. thx in advance

i used to work for a plumbing company and one of the vans would do this same thing. turns out it was the stator in the dizzy. also those tfi modules suck try both of those

and if you happen to have this happen again before swapping parts......ground a plug wire and see if you have spark. the fuel pump, as Bernie mentioned, and TFI module goin out can show similar symptoms of dying out when hot. this will help narrow it down.

good luck.

Damn, I thought I was the only one who thought bad-boy hoodlum Jesse James sold out. He's not even a car guy.

I would also check the coil. And while you are at it, you may as well do the plugs, rotors, cap, wires, fuel filter, air filter, timing, clean the throttle body and MAF sensor, and calibrate the TPS. I would also give your battery terminals a good scrubbing and sanding down. You could even go whole hog and change the Tstat, flush the radiator and check your fan clutch for good measure.

The above is what I had to do to my 92GT to get it running in good shape BTW, and takes more time than money.
