i have an 88 gt 5.0, & i am getting a 85 4banger t-top stang.
will everything change over with no modifications?
example:
motor?
tranny t-5 85 was a auto?
suspension?
rearend?
fuel lines?
gt ground fx?

***i think my biggest question would be what about the wiring?
also what about the brake lines?are they the same?
thanks in advance....

You are going to have to use the main harness and computer from the 88 to run the engine in the 85. You are going to have to put the pedals in for the t5 (I am sure you already knew that though). You can use the suspension from the 4 cylinder. Either way, the stock suspension sucks so I wouldn't bother changing it if you don't have to. The car will sit slightly lower with the 4 cylinder springs. I would recommend new shocks and struts. I don't know about the lines for brakes and gas. However, the 88 brake rotors are slightly larger. The GT ground effects should work, but I don't know how good they will look with the 85 nose. If you are going to swap the nose, you will need the hood from the 88. If you are going to swap the nose, please don't tell us because there will be a flood of people coming in here to berate you for it and go off topic.

Do you have the whole 88GT complete? Was it wrecked? If you have the whole car and it is in good mechanical condition, I would use as much from it as possible. I think the only difference in the brakes is a slightly bigger front rotor, so you may be able to use the existing lines. Best thing to do is compare them. Also, I would swap the entire rearend from the 88, as the 7.5 open diff in the 85 is going to be useless for traction.

don't mess with the body, most people that do aero swaps (or even just put ground effects on) just do a half assed job of it and the car looks like crap. fix up anything on it that needs repair, but keep the outside of it essentially stock.

ok, thanks for your info.. any other info on the brake lines would be great. im going efi, so i already know that i have to put the fuel lines in.....

you'll need the fuel lines, and the brake lines.

what exactly is wrong with the 88 GT that you need to rip it to shreds?

The brake hoses from the 88 will work on the 85's hard lines with no issue, so you can swap the 88 brakes to the 85.

The 85 doesn't have an electric fuel pump so you will need the tank as well as the fuel lines.

The clutch/brake pedal assembly will need to be swapped also, as well as the gas pedal unless you want the skinny one that comes with the auto cars.

Body. The mouldings do not match from 85 to 88 so unless you are going to do a full aero swap I would let it as a 4 eye car. Maybe you can recoup some money from selling the good aero parts on ebay. However keeping it as a 4 eye car, I believe, is going to bring up some wiring needs for the alternator since it is on the opposite side on a 4 cyl car, but I am sure someone will chime in.

You ask about the wiring? You will need the engine wiring harness from the 88. However once again if you go aero and want to put the newer dash in then swap the body wiring also. It is a time consuming job, but not that bad if you mark everything.
