Hey guys, i just got out my mustang after a long and dreadful winter and i'm having a few problems...any help would be appreciated. I have an 88 gt and when i got it out, my car had a little trouble accelerating and had some backfires. It only backfires when i accelerate fast. I thought it was possibly some bad gas but i used all of that up and ran a tank of premium through it and it still doing the same thing. It also has a little trouble with low idle and sometimes stalls out...i think this is a leak in the vaccum line. Could a vaccum leak also lead to the trouble in accelerating and backfiring? If not any suggestions on what it could be? Thanks a lot i appreciate any help.

If you're SD, a vac leak can cause a rich condition which allows afterfires.

Pull the codes and check your vac signal. You should see nearly 20" hg at idle.

Good luck.

Spare port on the vac tree would be a good starting point.

You can also spray around the motor with carb cleaner. If there is a vac leak, the engine's RPM will rise

if its sputtering, u can also have a secondary ing. problem, like ( plugs, wires, cap rotor ) also check ur fuel relay, mine had my pump at full tilt all the time...
