Have you got a plan to pass the dreaded California emissions test?

I would just run the stock ignition. Msd are known to be a problem. Stock ignition is more than powerful enough to run that motor(and more "aggressive" combos). Msd cap and rotor are ok just don't run the distributor. Sounds like a fun project. Good luck and welcome to Stangnet!

Thanks for the advice on the msd can I use the spark plug wires or should i just purchase the ford racing wires? Also I bought the smog pump delete kit but I have not installed it, I hope it passes smog. Thanks for the positive thoughts!

I've never ran their wires. I've heard good and bad with them. If you already purchased I say run them. If you haven't and want a better product I suggest Taylor's. The FMS units are again...hit and miss. I ran them on my motor last time. I didn't have any issues. I'm not 100% sure on Cali rules(not even close lol) but won't they just fail you if you have missing smog equipment and or no CARB exempt tags? I think you'll be fine with passing the sniff test if you do have all the equipment in place and in proper condition.

It won't pass the visual inspection for CA smog laws. Needs all the emissions equipment.

This is what the car looked like when I brought it home from the purchase, I installed the LX tail lights, and the original 3 piece headlights and all new wiring harnesses.

welcome.

Here's my 2 cents for what its worth.

Unless you are dead set on them, I would not get the X heads and get a set of either TFS or AFR heads . Also for the cam, there are much better choices than alphabet cams. The TFS 1 or crane 270 are good choices. Make sure the springs match the cam.

I'd suggest a PRO M MAF matched to the injectors. I'd forget underdrive pulleys as they are not worth the extra 5hp at 5000 rpm as a trade off for slowing down the waterpump and alternator.

Don't bother with a smog delete. IF you end up with no smog equipment, just run a short belt.

For the throttle body 65 MM is plenty for the hp level you are at. As others mentioned, forget the MSD box- it's not needed and they simply suck.

What rockers and pushrods are you going with? I'd recommend either Crane Gold, Pro Magnums, or Ford Racing.. You will need to measure for correct pushrod length and get hardened pushrods.

If your lifters have some mileage on them. I'd replace those while the motor is apart vs. having to do it after the install and find out you collapsed one.

Check the CFM ratings on those fans- i think combined it's less than 2000 which is marginal at best for a stock motor. A black magic extreme, taurus, or MKVII fans all pull over 3000 CFM.

With the combo I outlined and the TFS intake, you are looking at anywhere from 280-310 rwhp depending on the tune.

Good luck with the build and keep us posted.

I was going to mention the heads etc also but he already has the longblock put together. Not the best parts but definitely an improvement over stock lol. I also believe the e cam is smog legal also(not sure on this). I do know some people have passed the sniffer with it.

I really thought these were some of the best parts I did by the matching 24lb maf bbk to match the injectors. Also Im going to up grade to the maximum sport supension and an 5 lug disc conversion which conversion would you guys recommend. I also wanted to do 3.73 rear end let me know what i should get.

Also this build is just for a reliable Sunday driver that has a little get up and go but nothing crazy i want it to be just a really clean 5.0.
