what was the signs or indication that it was the fire rings?

You can usually see where some of the exhaust gas is escaping through the brindled ring around the combustion chamber. A little tougher to see on iron heads, but still can become and issue....especially with 20+ year old gaskets.

Have them check for cracks between the valves or in any area where there's a water jacket, check the deck surface for trueness, have the valves leak tested and you guides checked over for wear and bolt them back on with fresh gaskets.

Got my heads back from the machine shop. Pressure tested good but found one to be a little warped. Could this be my cause? Reason I'm getting emission gasses in my coolant system?

I had them resurfaced and plan on reinstalling them soon.

That will do it- how warped where they? Lay a straight edge across the head surface and see if you can slide a .004 feeler gauge underneath at diffferent points. If you can, it needs to be machined.

they were already resurfaced. I think he said something like one was 4 something and the other was 3 something.

he resurfaced them both for me and pressure tested them.

talked to my cousin this weekend and he had a good thought about my single core radiator not disipating enough heat and over time causing the warping. Whatcha think fellas?

Well regardless I am putting her back together. Hopefully I will be finished Tuesday.. Then I guess I need to start working on getting a new radiator...

With my S/C finding a new double core radiator is going to be tricky. My new electric fan comes pretty close the the bolt on drive pully...

turn the fan upside down or trim some of the shroud.

It's taking me forever to get everything cleaned up, prepped, and painted for re-installation but tonight I finally made some real progress.

Heads, rockers, push rods, lower intake, fuel rail, and injectors installed.

Got my headers cleaned up and repainted and put back in place before I installed the heads. Glad I did or it would have been a little more tough to get the headers in place I think.

Here are my cylinders after I got them cleaned up and decarboned. I used a resurfaceing tool on a air gun. I touched them real lightly and never stayed in one spot. Hopefully that didn't hurt anything.

I used this permatex copper spray on the head gaskets and intake gaskets.

head gaskets go on dry. make sure you put them on with the up and front correct or you will block coolant passages.

The beast is back together again and running down the road

So far no leaks, drove it 2 days so far. I tell you, it was a lot of grunt work and not much intelligence on this job. I am wore out.

Great experience. The only real problems I ran into were the following:

1. I didn't put the rear EGR spacer coolant line on the lower intake BEFORE I installed the upper intake. Big deal there.
2. When I installed the lower intake I bolted her down with the small ground wire that connects to the rear of driver side head between the intake and block... I just loosened the intake back up and pulled it out, re-torqued the bolts back down...
3. I put the lower intake top rail gaskets on AND the little corner blobs of gasket sealer BEFORE I installed the heads not knowing that was supposed to wait until I got the heads on first... In doing this on the passenger side the head swiped a little bit of the make a gasket sealer between the head gasket and head. I really hope that gasket material doesn't hurt anything...

It's running good. Got a little more to tighten up on headers and a few small adjustments on the electric fan but she's running good. Let's hope the warped head was the cause of the overheating and I'm back to normal...

Thanks to all for your help, mission accomplished.

New spark plugs, went with iridium because of super charger:

Painted the Valve Covers. I like em better this way. They were looking a bit shaggy before. Went with a metallic black, the textured paint looks great.

I'm smelling gas all the time now. I didn't do something right. I don't see gas leak anywhere so far. What do you guys think?

Keep an eye on the two fuel lines that goes to the fuel rail..but as long as you don't see any leaks don't worry about it. The smell will go away the more you drive it.

Speaking of those two connections, the o-rings were really stretched out and loose on the fuel rails. Do they sell those at any autoparts store?

You can take them apart remove one of the o rings and take to napa or any autoparts store and have them to match them up with new o rings. Did you smear engine oil on them before you put everything back together? also did you hear a click when you joined the connections?

For the gas smell, make sure you have the cannister hoses hooked up properly. Also check all of the injectors and FPR for leaks.

Turns out the gas leak is coming from around the vortech FPR on the passenger side of car or the lines going to it. I found gas piling up on the passenger side ledge just below my air filter and all the way back to the strut tower.

I put it in the garage to change the oil, switch out electric fans, and find that gas leak. I ended up breaking the brass fitting oil inlet to the vortech... There went another $60 down the tubes.

I ran out of time before I could find the exact place it was leaking. Where do you guys think its most likely leaking?

Here is my setup:

It doesn't look like its coming from directly under the blue FPR. I can't really tell.

Hey, guys, what if I accidentally swapped number 12 & 18 in this diagram?? Would that cause the issue? Not purging the gas correctly or at all or something?
