Looking for a manual steering rack. I dont want aftermarket, I was wondering what model car rack fits in a Fox Body Mustang.

Fairmont manual steering rack.

When you say you don’t want aftermarket, are you saying you want an original rack?

Early Fox body Mustangs had manual racks, However they are a bit hard to find these days. Even the reman sites list them as out of stock.

Good luck.

No reason not to go with a brand new flaming river rack.

Don’t know, don’t care. I can tell you the 4 flaming river racks I’ve used have all been great. Plus they can rebuild them if you opt to.

Sure beats trying to track down a 79 fox body steering rack.

Let's just say I have a love/hate relationship with the aftermarket.

The odds of you getting an OEM manual rack is pretty slim other than finding a reman.

Definitely look into the tie rod ends and the steering column input shaft.

You have options
I used to overhaul those power racks
You could pull the sector shaft out and remove the power piston seal and o ring rendering it basically a manual rack
That combined with connecting the input and output lines prevents contamination.
That way you have a stronger? rack IMO

I found a company in Iowa that sold me a brand new Manual rack shipped to my door for $150.

Can use a manual rack from a Pinto or Mustang II, not super hard to find in the junkyard.. use offset bushings to mount it, use tie rod ends from a 79 mustang, and fab up a steering shaft (if this interests you i can walk you through how I did mine)
