Yep, it was standard on all 5.0s. If your doing peg leg burn outs then the clutches are worn.

And BTW I'm not trying to flame, but Ford calls their posi "Traction-Lok" or "Trac-Lok", if I didnt say it someone else would have.

The car looks good.

Was it all 5.0 yrs or just certain ones? Cause when i do a standstill burnout power goes to the driver side tire. Im puttin new gears in the rear should i get the diff rebuilt? or buy a new one. What about an electric locker? like on 4x4s? Just a thought lol

Your 1989 should have traction lock. If it's not doing a 2 wheel burnout then it needs to be rebuilt.

here is a little rear end info..

1979 & 1980 the mustang was only offered with an open diff.

1982 open diff was standard, Traction Lok was an option.

1983-1993 Traction Lok became standard on all V8 fox mustangs.

Yea, you'll definitely need to rebuild your 'lok! There are now two different kits, one is the new carbon friction style they used in the Terminator Cobras, I think. Good luck!

In '82 there were two V8s: 4.2L and 5.0L. Traction-Lok was optional with 4.2L, and manadatory with 5.0L.

you are correct there where 2 V8's, but you are incorrect, the open diff's where standard, taction lok was optional like I stated. Here is the info..

1982 4.2ltr 2BBL 2.73:1 open diff. standard/ 2.73:1 traction lok optional

1982 5.0. ltr 2BBL H.O. 3.08:1 open diff standard/ 3.08:1 traction lok optional

Traction-Lok was also became standard on all turbo-4 cars at the same time.

Yes, you are correct about Trac-Lok being optional on 5.0 cars in '82 everything that I've read also indicates that it was a "standard" option and 5.0 cars couldn't be bought without it. Either way, it is a moot point that can be rectified easily.

Which "1982 Ford sales brochure" are you looking at? There is no such information in this one: 1982 Mustang Brochure (US)

The Official Ford Mustang 5.0 Technical Reference & Performance Handbook says, on page 357:

Traction-Lok History and Highlights

1982

The cone-and-roller Traction-Lok limited-slip differential continued as an extra-cost Mustang option, mandatory with the V-8.

Looking at the 1982 Ford Car Facts Organizer, on page 10 (Mustang - General Specifications) it says in the Power Team Combinations table:

Engine: 5.0L (HO) (302 CID) V-8
Transmission: Manual 4-speed Overdrive
Axle Ratios: Standard - NA, Traction-Lok Optional - 3.08:1 (5)

(5) Traction-Lok is standard with the 5.0L High Output engine.

I don't put alot of faith in text, which we just found out why. The brochures you show list the 3:08 as standard for all modles and engines which we know mustangs could be found with 2 axle ratio's. The 5.0. tech. ref. book , yes I did read page 357 but on page 27 under the 1982 section sub section 5 "A 2:73 open rear end was standard with the 4.2. A 3.08 open rear end was standard on the 5.0.. Traction Lok was an extra cost option offered with both ratios". the the box on the bottom of the page has the listing. So you could be more right than me, who knows who cares, it's a crappy 7.5" rear end that can't handle any Hp and blows spider gears, but this has been argued on other forums with the same open ended results. I have good one .
