91 Gt Timing Cover Hole Striped

Hi for anyone who knows. The top hole of my timing cover is stripped i was thinking heli coil or If i could drill all the way thru to just put a nut and bolt? And if i could would any metal shavings get inside the water pump?

Use a Helicoil. The auto parts stores will have the kit you need consisting of drill bit, tap, Helicoil inserts and a Helicoil installation tool.

Advance Auto Parts Helicoil kit, 5/16-18, Part No. HEL5521-5 $21.79

I agree i have had very good luck with the heli coil tool.

I had that helicoil kit posted above and broke it the first time I used it. Very cheaply made. I did get it to work though for a rocker arm bolt hole in my aluminum heads...

Your comment noted and appreciated: NAPA may have a better,but more expensive helicoil kti.
Scratch that thought....it has the same cheap plastic insertion tool.

Looks like Grainger is the winner this time - metal insertion tool and a reasonable price - $27
