was looking in a local junk yard this past weekend and found several Lincoln donor cars for my 4.6 swap. I plan on using the engine, trans, computer and probably complete bumper to bumper wiring harness. here is a few questions if someone has time to answer!

1) which year cylinder heads do I need to look for?
2) what year engine blocks etc
3) are there many different computers around these years?

I dont mind running kinda slow as long as I can one day up date my cylinder heads, cam and intake and run nearly as well as a 99 GT or close!
thanks
jackie

p.s. this engine will be goin in a 1991 GT (4.6 liter)

That's an interesting swap.

ANy 91+ Lincoln or 92+ Mercury will have the 4.6L in it. It's pretty much the same engine as in the 96-98 Mustang making about 215HP. Any 4.6L block can be upgraded to 99+ PI specs with the right heads and intake from a PI Mustang.

You do realize you will need to change crossmembers to mount the engine and you'll need a modular based tranny such as the 4w70w or a T-45 or t-3650.

Why not look for a 93-98 Lincoln Mark 8 4.6L DOHC motor. They can be had cheap and are not that far off from 96-98 Cobra specs (290HP). Right there you have already passed 99+ PI HP specs and can build on the engine.

I actually have access to a really bunch of 4.6 parts really cheap! I think I will first just use a late 91 up engine just to get it goin. Yea I knew about the crossmember, no problem there I'll just have to find a cheap one or build one.
thanks

That is what I was thinking. A 4V motor is cooler, anyway.

I'm pretty sure that the 91-93 Lincoln 2V only had 190 horsepower.

I wouldn't go with any of those trannies either - especially the 3650. A T5Z is much cheaper and can be made much stronger, in my opinion.

I agree, but the T-5 bellhousing won't bolt up to a 4.6L block.
