93 2.3 starting issues

after changing the starter and cables car starts. tested starter two places and it worked, so i put old starter and new cables in. didn't start. banged on starter a couple time and car would start. so, friend wanted to replace starter and did and car starts. now, it didn't want to start and friend left it over nite and it started next day. what else can i check. fuel pump primes with ignition on. replaced all battery cables. thanks

Are you saying the starter won't turn the engine over? If so, try jumping across the starter relay, and see if it starts. If so, then the relay is bad.

There's an outside chance it may be a faulty ignition switch.......
