I bought a 93 Crown Vic Police Interceptor for a work car and it has started to burn a lot of oil. I am thinking about just buying a used motor to drop in. Does anyone know what years will fit and are there any issues with later year motors that I should be aware of? Is there a difference in the engine on a 93 Police Interceptor and a stock Crown Vic? Also does anyone out there have a decent 4.6 for sale in the Southern Indiana area? Thanks for any help

Mark.

If you could do just the shortblock and reuse your top end, go to ModularDepot and PM HyperGT. 70k mile shortblock for $400. Don't think you can beat that

I have have 2 crown vics...1 with the police interceptor package, rear gear and tranny cooler. basically thats it. But I have swapped out 3 motor in them. Those things are plaqued with smoking bad!! looks like your smoking mosquitoes for the city! There is a difference in starter motors and alternators on them. I think that has to do with the electronics. One of mine has digital dash, air ride, power everything, it has the beefier starter and alt. I would say save your money and just drive the thing! we have not had much luck swapping motors to cure the smoke... just buy oil in bulk.
