I bought the prothane total kit and have replaced all the bushings throughout the whole car...rear end went kinda smooth and everything else is a go but the front end. I am having trouble getting the springs back in place. I also am having trouble with the shock nut on the caster plate. I have tried both spring compressors that you can rent from autozone and neither have helped. I have done a search and it seems like everyone leaves the shocks connected and undo the lower control arm but even installing them the first time was a PITA because the prothane bushings were so tight and I had to fight with the bolts for 2 hours to get them even slid in. I couldn't imagine trying to do it fighting a spring too and messing with two jacks. Im at a loss. Also I got one shock off on the drivers side and the passanger side is spinning with a snap on electric impact. I have tried a wrench and screw driver but It will not hold the shaft tight enough....any ideas or thoughts would be appreciated. :bang:

For the spinning shock rod (or are you talking about struts?): The shock should have two flatted sides to put a wrench on (to hold the rod while you break the nut loose).
If you mean the strut: PB the crap out of the nut. Then get a longish prybar (the kind that are like a long screwdriver but with a slight bend near the tip). Put the tip in the strut slot, with the prybar PARALLEL to the ground (this gives you leverage to keep the rod from spinning! If you try to orient the prybar like a normal screwdriver, your wrist will fall off before you can hold the rod from spinning).

I have poly all over the front end of the 88 GT vert (including the FLCA's). You should not have the issue you are. Are the bushings seated in the LCA bosses properly? I have read of people slightly spreading the ears in the K member but I have NEVER done it and would not know about it.

You are correct that about which method is how many of us do things (it's often called the MFE method). I no longer recommend doing it (though it's still how I do things) because people have struggled with it. It is often about the only way to do things *IF* you do not have the OTC spring compressor (you really might wanna see if you can find one of these).

Good luck.

Thanks for the info...I am going to try to locate the pry bar you are talking about...sorry it was the strut and not the shock. I have used two types of spring compressors and no luck. What type works? thanks again.
