hey guys...I'm not really experienced with cars, engines, and all that technical stuff for cars...but I really love my mustang. I was wondering if you guys could make any suggestions on how I could get starting on making my stang more special...like performance parts-wise

Ill rundown what to get. Full exauhst -headers, h-pipe, catback.. Gears 3:73's should do.. K&n filter.. Decent cap rotor and wires. Short throw shifter, and some under drive pullies. Thata the basics before getting into the engine itself. Id also advise on getting a set of subframe connectors.. If a 5 speed id get a good clutch and an aluminum quadrant with a firewall adjuster..

Cold air kits are fine but are mostly for looks. You'll still get hot air from the enginge compartment heating the cold air pipe which defeats the purpose. You'll get the same airflow gains as the cold air kit by just removing your air silencer (mounted in the fender) & replacing your factory airfilter with a replacment panel filter from K&N.

If you like the look of the cold air system, that's fine. It won't hurt anything but save you self the money & just get a cheap one off of ebay.

Show us some pics and I am sure everyone will put in there $.02

...but its your car you should really have an idea and go from there, for some pointers search for the nicest fox thread and you'll get some ideas of what looks goo to YOU and what YOU like.

Good luck man...

so i found this product online for a k&n filter...is that something i would be looking for?

why not get cold air intake again?

because the stock intake IS a cold air kit. and the 90* bend right before the mass air meter on aftermarket cold air kits causes turbulence in the airflow and will give the sensor an off reading. you should definitely build up the suspension before breaking into the motor. Just like building a house, start with a good foundation. go with what RsStang said: full exhaust, (headers, midpipe, mufflers), a set of gears, subframes, control arms, shocks/struts and springs, if it's a 5spd get a shifter and an aluminum quadrant.

yeah I have a 5 speed...so im curious to what the shifter and an aluminum quadrant will do...and why only for the 5 spd?

go with either a Pro 5.0 (www.pro50.com) or an MGW (www.mgwltd.com) shifter. both top quality, GREAT shifters. the shifter will give you shorter throws and shift stops. if you're slamming through gears without stops, you'll bend a shift fork inside the tranny. it also gives you a much more solid feel when shifting through the gears. the stock quadrant is made of plastic and will break over time, especially if you have an aftermarket clutch. replacing it with an aluminum piece is just preventative measures to keep you from being broke down on the side of the road, all because of a $50 piece of plastic. and more peace of mind knowing you can slam on the clutch without breaking the quadrant. and it's only if your car is 5spd because only a 5spd car uses a clutch quadrant and manual shifter. of course auto's have shifters, but it's not necessary to change it on a street car, just get a shift kit.
