My friend is thinkin about getting a 95 GT and wants to do the Explorer Head and intake combo and was told that the deck height is different from earlier year 302's and the explorer blocks. can any one help us out on this issue.

The compression ratio is lower in an Explorer/Mountaineer motor but the heads are the same ones that come stock on the 94-95 cobra. (if they're the gt40's of course)

302 are 8.2" deck height

351 are a 9.2" deck height

Mustang and Explorer have same deck height 302 5.0L engines

^ Then what changes the compression in these motors? I know a stock mustang has a 9.5:1 but an explorer/mountaineer has a 8.8:1.

Larger combustion chamber on the GT40 heads that were offered on the Explorer/Mountaineer versus the Cobra. Milling them brings it back up.
