I'm looking into getting a stang and as of now I have two choices..one being-A freind of mine has an 87 5.0 manual with 75,xxx miles. It only has an exhaust and needs a paint job. Second choice-Save and buy an 94-95 GT. So i guess my question is...buy the fox and mod it with the extra money or buy the 94-95 and put some minor mods on it (pipe, gears, etc.). Thanks in advance.

PS-Great site!

What do you want it for?

Daily driver, get the SN95. It weighs a little more than the Fox, because Ford tweaked the chassis to make it stiffer. And they ditched the four lug wheels and drum brakes in favor of five lug and discs all around, plus ABS. Much more comfortable car overall.

If you want a drag racer, the Fox will be a bit lighter (depends on model though, notches are quite a bit lighter, GT's are almost as heavy as an SN95).

Either one will require some TLC if it hasn't been maintained properly, since even a 95 is now ten years old. But personally I'd skip the Fox. I have a soft spot for 'em, but it wouldn't be worth the hassle IMO.

I guess I'll add my 2 cents. Before I bought my car I test drove this 89 LX Fox mustang that I was going to buy from a friend. I didn't buy it cause of two things: 1. It was an auto 2. The hatch rattled like crazy and there was other numerous squeaks I didn't like. Needless to say when I test drove my car I was impressed that there was hardly any squeaks or rattles and it was a 5 speed. After that I was sold, or should I say the car was sold. :p

If you want a little more speed go with the fox body, but if your looking for something that is ALOT nicer on the outside and inside go with the 95. A 95 GT will set you back from $6000-$7500 depending on the miles and the condition. save up more and you will be happy with your choice, but thats my .02.

Get a SN-95 - Better brakes, 5-lug, look better to the girls :nice: , not as old, more modern, etc...

The weight difference isn't that big of a difference...

I guess I'll say a thing or two on the subject.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Fox Coupe.

The SN95 is built way more solid than the Fox.

The extra weight of the 94-95 will really be felt if you buy a stocker with an aod-e.
Gears & a better tc will help a bunch with that kind of car.

Be sure to let us know what you end up getting and good luck finding a good one.
