Need to replace water pump - diligently search for all the stuff I need:

1) buy water pump bolt set and timing cover bolt set from totallystainless - they were backlogged on the stud kit, so I buy the stud kit from Autozone - cheap - kit #23744 (Dorman).
2) I try to find pics of the locations of the studs and how this all works. count the bolts in my water pump kit from TS - 9 bolts...9 holes in water pump...wtf??
3) looked at engine....can't see the studs, but the water pump was supposedly replaced by previous owner.

Where do the studs go??? Or do I not need them for replacing water pump on a cobra? I'm also replacing timing chain (replacing that since the gasket behind the timing chain is weeping a little, so it needs to come off...)?? Are the studs only used on '93 motors? I have really looked hard for a good pic of bolt/stud locations for a '94 - even have the shop manual on CD, but pics seem to be non-existent there as well - looked for a good exploded drawing of the engine - no findee.

Also confused, since some directions indicate I need to remove the alternator and power steering brackets - if the studs are used on the brackets, I have removed them before to do head gaskets and don't recall an attachment to the front cover.....maybe this is also a pre-'94 thing as well?

Thanks for help/advice - I'm likely over-analyzing this, but I always do when I tackle a job I've never done before.

No studs are needed on the '94/5 GT water pumps. Only on Cobra and only for the factory oil cooler hose mounting tabs.

So, I'll be the only "stud" needed, then, eh?
