well i went to the local self serve junkyard and theres a 94 lincoln mark 8. the engine is still complete.my question is should i take it out?? it will cost 200-300 bucks. it has 160k miles what do u guys think.i searched and read cobrapoweredgt.com and it doesnt seem that difficult.the only thing i couldnt find is how to hook up the throttle linkage??? i would love to have this engine as i would want to be able to beat 99+gts . the engine comes with 280hp so for now it should be enough. well should i bother??

Sure you want to take a perfectly good running 4.6L out of your car and put in an unknown 11 year old 160K miles engine??

The Mark 8 engine is a reliable motor, but 160K on any motor is gonna take it's toll.

Also, the 280HP rating was through a single puny exhaust. If you run duel exhaust, and convert to e 96-98 Cobra Intake/TB setup, you can have close to 300HP out of the motor

I'd do it, just rebuilt it before you put it in. No sense in swapping a motor with that many miles on it. Freshen it up while it is out.

Is the extra 20hp worth all that work?

For sure I would rebuild it as well. The 280hp rating was when the engine was new, 160k miles is going to cut that down. If I were you I would port and polish the heads out on your engine now or just do the PI swap, you would be getting essentially the same thing with less work and more reliable engine.

If you can get that engine $300, I would get it. You could easily turn around and sell that block for more $$$. If you are looking at rebuilding a motor, that is the block you want.

yeah if i get it i want to rebuild it.nothing fancy just new bearings and rings bore it if it needs it.i would also look for the cobra intake and cobra cams. i want more power out of my stang. new v6 stangs have 240hp!!!i dont want to lose to 6s!!!! well anyways ,i was going to start looking for pi swap parts. but the dohc is so tempting.well my plan is to get the engine put it in the garage rebuild it and when time is right swap it. or if i ever decide i dont want it, it seems i shouldnt have a problem selling it. well if its still there next week and if its still in one piece ill take it. btw,any hints on how to take it off , remember its in the junkyard so it doesnt matter if i brake stuff

did u notice if they had anymore there? im planning a stroker buildup with some possible forced induction, and a Teksid block would do real nice to offset teh weight of the blower.
