95 Dodge Stratus

Did intake gaskets on an older model V6 Intrepid once when I used to work at a Firestone, but I'm not sure what size the engine was. Never again will I touch one of those bastards. I swear it took me like 7 hours to do just the intake gaskets.

:nonono: ...lol....I looked up a HEAD from this car and saw the cams within the head.....looked up the gasket kit and see a lot of extra's........just looking for info before I tear the old one off...

I had a 96 Stratus with the 2.4.
Had the head gasket replaced at the dealership for an oil leak.
It was pretty cheap to have done and quick too.
I asked them why and the service manager told me that the 2.4l doesn't have coolant running through it and was a realitivily easy task.

Hey Joe.........(Hendrick's theme plays)......

One of my employees said he went to three shops and was quoted 1500.00...

He leased it....then bought it out right.........has been adding 2 quarts of oil every 3 weeks.....anti-freeze in the oil........
He just put on new tires/brakes/struts..........sold it to me for 300.00.....didnt want tp put ant $ into it.........interior is mint.....a little rust on rear 1/4 but that's it...
I couldn't pass it up

Its a dodge...for 300$ I would have passed it up by running away. :D

Good luck, also might want to look into if it is part of the fuel system recal/issue. They have a slight fire haz. in that the rail or the inj. leaks all over the place and catches the whole car on fire (not bad or anything:rlaugh: )

Really best of luck with it....actually post pics of the tear down and re-assemble....would be kinda nice to see some dodge stuff apart to see how they fit together.

$1500:rlaugh:

I meant to say that no coolant runs through the head.
Shouldn't be too hard to do:shrug:

I really liked my Stratus. Installed an awesome stereo system and the car was dead reliable. Super cold A/C. Great handling car too.

Ended up trading it for my 95 Mustang. Really wished I had hung onto that car for a DD.

No coolant threw the head  I am not an engineer but...even if its an alum. head you would think...hey we might want to cool this sucker off  . Even if it just has passages in the block up to the head I would think that would cause some kinda large hot spots in the head and that would = warp-age

Thats almost as messed up as an old jeep v8 intake gasket.

Will, I've done a 100K top end (Timing belt, water pump, etc) service on a 2.0 Breeze but not a DOHC engine........ I know nothing about it.

I'd load that thing up and take a road trip to Joe's favorite shop to have it done for cheap. :D

I'm not touching the coolant thing. :D

Hey, all I know is what they told me:shrug:

The mechanic showed me where the oil was seeping out between the head and engine block while it was up on the lift. They had it replaced within a few hours.

Run Will run...:rlaugh: .....I had an impulsive moment....this guy said it was the valve cover gasket.......until he told me the quote....and I told him he had to mean the head gasket........he has NO...and I mean NO mechanical know how.....
I figured I can mess with it and resale it later......or if things go south......there may be a vid made of me tearing it all to hell in a field.....lol......
I will post the pics of the tear down and install process for you....no problems there but it will have to wait for me to finish the pick-up project...motor and tran are dropped in but nothing is hooked up.....

There is JT...:rlaugh: ..Car has 111k on it ...been a 1 owner...now me..he drove it over....said it was having trouble idling under 1 K....I have never messed with a OHC......not scared to tear it down ...just doing some research before I break something else.......LOL

It shouldn't be too bad - my favorite 4 bangers have been DOHC.

Will, I wasn't sure if I followed but if you have not done a lot of DOHC timing belts, really pay attention to cam alignment when you do the belt reinstallation. I typically spend some time on it - you might have to under-rotate the second cam so that when the belt is on and taut, it's timing marks line up. Do spin it through a couple of times to ensure the timing marks stay lined up. (On a 4 banger, there's a notch in the cam gear that gets lined up to the deck where the valve covers sit. I needed a mirror to even try to get it aligned. :bang: ).

Have fun mang!

Good luck brah.

Thanks JT...that's the type of info I am looking for......I was not aware of that....by looking at the pic of the two cams in the head.......I figured I'd do some research before just removing everything.....I've got time.....gotta finish the truck...
