Any of you "real" mechanics..lol....ever did a head gasket on the 2.4 dual OH cam with 16 valves............any special info?......
Yes JT......I have another project
Yes JT......I have another project
Did intake gaskets on an older model V6 Intrepid once when I used to work at a Firestone, but I'm not sure what size the engine was. Never again will I touch one of those bastards. I swear it took me like 7 hours to do just the intake gaskets.
...lol....I looked up a HEAD from this car and saw the cams within the head.....looked up the gasket kit and see a lot of extra's........just looking for info before I tear the old one off...
I have the 4 cyl. hooray...only one head to pull off......talk about less engine bay than our stangs....
)
I am not an engineer but...even if its an alum. head you would think...hey we might want to cool this sucker off
. Even if it just has passages in the block up to the head I would think that would cause some kinda large hot spots in the head and that would = warp-age

Will, I've done a 100K top end (Timing belt, water pump, etc) service on a 2.0 Breeze but not a DOHC engine........ I know nothing about it.
I'd load that thing up and take a road trip to Joe's favorite shop to have it done for cheap.![]()
I'm not touching the coolant thing.![]()
Its a dodge...for 300$ I would have passed it up by running away.![]()
Good luck, also might want to look into if it is part of the fuel system recal/issue. They have a slight fire haz. in that the rail or the inj. leaks all over the place and catches the whole car on fire (not bad or anything)
Really best of luck with it....actually post pics of the tear down and re-assemble....would be kinda nice to see some dodge stuff apart to see how they fit together.
.....I had an impulsive moment....this guy said it was the valve cover gasket.......until he told me the quote....and I told him he had to mean the head gasket........he has NO...and I mean NO mechanical know how.....Will, I've done a 100K top end (Timing belt, water pump, etc) service on a 2.0 Breeze but not a DOHC engine........ ..Car has 111k on it ...been a 1 owner...now me..he drove it over....said it was having trouble idling under 1 K....I have never messed with a OHC......not scared to tear it down ...just doing some research before I break something else.......LOLlooks fun, thanks for the non-ford pics...not often do you get a chance to see what avg. daily drivin' cars look like apart.
It shouldn't be too bad - my favorite 4 bangers have been DOHC.
Will, I wasn't sure if I followed but if you have not done a lot of DOHC timing belts, really pay attention to cam alignment when you do the belt reinstallation. I typically spend some time on it - you might have to under-rotate the second cam so that when the belt is on and taut, it's timing marks line up. Do spin it through a couple of times to ensure the timing marks stay lined up. (On a 4 banger, there's a notch in the cam gear that gets lined up to the deck where the valve covers sit. I needed a mirror to even try to get it aligned.).
Have fun mang!
Good luck brah.
