I have a 95 gt that has a problem and i think its timing related. If i drive the car everyday its fine, but if i dont i can get in it to start it and acts hard to crank and it wont start like its out of time. I can advance the timing about 10 degrees or so and it will fire right up then i can reset to 12 btdc and its fine. I purchased the car about a year ago not running so when i put it back together i thru a B303 cam in it for the sound . Its been doing this eversince i got it running so i dont know if i was doing it before i bought it. I use to unhook the battery overnight and that would work too til i figured out retiming it. Im thinking the pcm is locking up or something and unhooking the battery is killing the keep alive memory in the pcm. Anybody had this happen to them? I did read that the pcm in the sl95 was sensitive to aftermarket cams.

Welcome to Stangnet,

Did you remove the spout before timing?? The spout isn't missing right?
When i initially set the timing i did remove the spout and reinstalled it after it was set. When ever i adjust the timing to get it started i dont remove it. I put a mark on the dist and block where to set it back to. Pretty strange aint it?

I'm going to guess that the PIP signal to the PCM is erratic or a worn distributor drive gear. I would opt for a new distributor (Richporter) or replace the PIP and gear if you have the tools.

Yea, thats probably a good place to start. I thought it was pretty strange though that i can disconnect the battery over night and the car will crank like its supposed to. Keep in mind it only does it if it sits a day without being started, you know like if I park it on Friday and dont try to drive it again til Sunday. I may put a stator in it over the weekend and see what the drive gear looks like. Thanks for the input.
