So I recently purchased a 95 gt vert for a really good price.... Or so I thought. Seller did say that the top would not go down by the switch. Which is where my problem lies...... I did some searching and a good inspection of the hydrolic system and looked on the net for a direction.... 1st the pump was dry. Filled it.... Cycled the switch a few times checking for leaks.. There were none but top still wouldn't work. Then I noticed my problem.... The wires going to the motor right before the clip were smoking....... I need help. Any ideas? PLEASE help a fella out with this..

Short in the motor. Do you have a way to power the motor directly?

Not that I know of. Would a short in motor cause wiring on car side of pigtail to get hot and smoke?

It would if there is an amp draw greater than the wiring was meant to handle.

Just speculating but I bet the wires are bad due to age and the motor is bad due to old wires or vise versa. I bet you need a new motor and pigtail. Same kind of thing happened to me recently. Not w a convertible top but alternator wiring harness.

SO..... is the vert wiring integrated into the the whole chasis harness or is it on its own? Would it/ Could it be as simple as just running new wire from clip to clip and replacing the motor? That I've had to do in the past on previous cars lol.

It's 20 yrs old. Edit, dang, they're kinda high
