95 gt - Will not turn off - Ignition loose -

My girl has a 95 gt, the other day she came home and it would not turn off, I had to pull the coil wire. I notice the ignition is now loose when turning it to Run position. I was also having issues with getting the ignition out, I tried a few different punch style things and none worked (had ignition in Run and tried to depress the pin).
What could be wrong?

Bad locking cylinder.

I've owned 3 Mustangs [All 94's] and 2 of the 3 had this. It's simple to replace, just takes a while to find the stupid pin to remove the whole cylinder.

They go for about $50 if I remember correctly.

replace ignition lock cylinder see instruction below....see 1-9 under removal and installation.picture in figure #30 shows the steering wheel removed but it does not need to be removed...

I just replaced the lock cylinder with a new one and still loose and will not turn off. Same thing with old ignition cylinder. I kinda thought it was deeper in...................

Yea... it still starts.... but I doubt my girl would be willing to pull the coil wire and get Zapped everyday.

The ignition switch assembly in my '94GT has gotten all loose and sloppy. It still works, but its not very reassuring.

Ok, I changed out the ignition switch with a new one with NO luck again. Still the same. I can not really see into the column mechanism. What to do next?

sounds like the little pin that holds the two pieces of the ignition linkage together came out or came lose. not too hard to fix but takes time.

theres two little plastic pieces that slide front to back depending on key position. these connect the ignition tumbler where the key goes to the actuall ignition switch. the little pin that holds the two pieces together on mine somehow came out.

removed the lower dash trim on the drivers side

removed the upper two bolts under the dash that hold the steering colum up. backed the lower two allmost all the way out but did not remove them.

removed the two TQ head bolts on either side of the colum right near where the colum enters the dash.

after that i put the wheel all the way down using the tilt and then held the tilt lever so that i could push it down a little further giving me enough clearence to get in there and work

That was it! The little pin came out somehow, so I had to pull the lower plastic part up all the way, then slide the pin in connecting the two.
