My Car 95 GT Convertible
Mostly Stock as far as i know.
Equal length shorty headers
BBK TB
BBK Cold Air Intake
19# Injectors
New Fuel Filter
Used MSD Coil
New Cap & Rotor
New Ford Racing Wires
New Spark Plugs - Bosch Platinum, which I have read was a bad choice
Cleaned MAF

Problem:
Car drives great normal everyday driving. Once RPMs get up to around 3700 missing/no power starts. Max RPM is about 4500 before engine is to bad that I dont try to go any higher. I checked my fuel pressure 30psi at idle 42 psi at rev up but 29 psi at constant throttle 3000 rpms before change fuel filter. changed fuel filter and missing still occured. I just want to see if my next step is to change fuel pump or if this is an ignition issue or the engine is just done. 200k plus miles.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

A 4K RPM cutout (or slightly funky idle) sometimes coincides with using plats. Some copper Motorcraft plugs might be a good idea.

Are you sure the used coil is good?

For about $16 I'd replace the coil. Copper core plugs usually work better.

Who said a quality coil? My bad, $26 for a Duralast. Comes with a 2 yr warranty though. Quality (or perceived quality) comes at a higher price.

OK I changed the sprk plugs; no help. I have also found that it is a torque issue. If I slowly raise RPMs I cna get to 5500 no problem. Could the timing chain be stretching under high torque? And if so how can I test it before replaceing?

You've briefly checked fuel pressure and replaced plugs, right?

You have not swapped out ignition components from a friend's car yet?

Have you checked ignition timing itself? Is the SPOUT connector in place?

Have not replaced coil or checked timing. I will do both.

I was having a similar problem with my car. My fuel pump was putting out good pressure but low volume. Replaced the pump and no problems anymore.

Had the same exact problem with my 95 gt automatic. Turned out to be the coil. I replaced it in the parkinglot
