Quick question for anyone who knows. I'm looking at adding some performance mods to my stock 5.0 95' Cobra. I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with the GT-40 intake manifolds and heads? What kind of horsepower gains would I generally be looking at? Or do you guys have any other advice on a good set of heads/intake combination to run on the stock motor? Thanks for the help

Depends on how far you want to go with it. I'd recommend you stick to the basics 1st, remove the silencer, drop in k$n, pullies, headers, x-pipe, aftercat, gears, t-moss lower intake, make sure your timing's set right...then see where that gets you and maybe you'll be happy or want to go from there into bigger and better stuff...Good luck with her and welcome to the SVT Family. :nice:

Edit: Not sure what you're really asking on the gt40 heads and manifold, but your car already comes with the gt40 irons and the gt40 manifold...There's a F&Q section at the top of the forum that lists out the other goodies our cars came equipped with.

Thanks for the reply. I've already done the K&N and did a bbk off road H-pipe and summit racing glass packs. That's basically it for aftermarket, so what's some fairly cheap (haha, yeah right) bolt ons that you recommend I start with.

Well do you want to tear into the motor or just do some more little bolt on's is the real question?

Tmoss does great work on gt40 intakes as well, but if your going to get his work on the intake you might want to look into heads as well as the gt40 intake/heads is a preaty good match stock.

If you want to get the gt40 heads worked look into Thumper's work on them, I have a set of his ported gt40 heads and they look realy, realy nice. If you want a set of alum. heads then I would look at TFS/AFR/Edlb. heads and there are several diff. sizes that each offer so there would be more info needed on that to pick the right head.

If your going to be that far into the motor a cam swap might be a good idea, If your wanting to stay preaty stock look into getting a 87SD gt cam (out of a junkyard 87 or someone who has changed the cam in there 87 to a new one as the dealer has the changed cam profile as the replacement and the real 87 cam is not avail.) Factory stock and many others get alot of power out of that cam.

You could go poweradder with a charger/turbo kit by itself or in conjunction with the mods above.

Like I said above you need to think about what you want and can do. Just remember not to get to the point your not having fun with it, at that point you will want to sell it.

well I'm most def on a budget. I'm looking at roughly $1500.00 to do what I need to do. They have a guy back home does port and polish work at about $800.00, I'm looking into that, but what else would I need to do to have port and polished heads matched up stock, will I need larger injectors or a new intake? What will give me the best horsepower for my money?

If you want some decent gains with minimal outlay...check out some thumper ported gt40 heads and the t-moss lower. That will keep you well within the 1500 dollar budges you mentioned, and you might have some left over too. You'd be very happy with the results for what you'd pay...Better that spending $800 for a port job at that place you were talking about.

Do a search on Tmoss and Thumper460 on here, they are both reg. members and have links to there sites/info on what they do in there sig (area in the lower part of there posts). Both are fast on turnaround. You send them your stuff and they do the work to your stuff and send it back.

with 1500 to play with id stay away from heads. Only because they involve a lot of work, and you will run into needing more money they just the cost of heads....id do the basic bolt ons. gears, underdrives, make a cold air, in take manifold....

Dude,,do the cheap things first.You will get greater results with a Cobra!! 410's,aluminum DS,,,DR's,,,pullies,,,and a bigger TB,,,and CAI..Lower your FP,advance the timing,,if thats not enough,,the GT-40 stuff is pretty good,,,add a little boost

Aight man just a few suggestion for ya.
If you decide bolt-on's
1.GEARS make your own decision on the gearing you would like (3.55's 3.73's 4.10s etc.)
2.C&L 76mm mass air kit. (mass air, inlet tube, filter and heat shield)
3.Drag Radials (nittos,BFG'sor MT's)
4.Aluminum Driveshaft
5.pullies (BBK,March,Etc.)
6.FPR (Kirban,Aeromotive,Etc.)
Forget the TB pain in the butt plus you wont see a gain of any worth unless you got a SC
Also Timing and fuel pressure make a big difference on our cars get everything tuned right (preferrably with a good dyno tune).
After you get that stuff its all up in the air as to how far you pocket book will let you go. Welcome to the Cobra Family and enjoy.

My Throttle Body did...NOTHING...my aluminum driveshaft did NOTHING...Change em when it's warranted...with that budget I'd do the t-moss/thumper combo or some other used heads...then change the other stuff...only reason I have some of the stuff I do already is due to repairs. Gears did make a bit of difference but that's about $500 parts and labor right there, and while you're in there you may as well do the diff and axles for even more $...just my opinion though...

Well I contacted T-Moss and I'm waiting for a reply on the thumper heads so far I'm well within the budget. The real worry though is if I go this route and get everything installed, just like Anthony said in his post, will that cause me to have to do other work ($$$$) to get everything tuned right? Or should everything come together smoothly and shouldn't be hard on a daily driver? I'm well aware of Murphy's Law but leaving him out of the equation, what do you guys think?

I'm looking for the most gains for my budget, I know pulleys and gears would get me off the line a little quicker but I don't believe they'll give me the power and torque I'm looking for. In that same breath, I'd hate to install the heads and lower and then have a car that doesn't run correctly. They have a dyno in my home town not sure what he charges for a tune on there but I guess after the install of everything I can always have him tune the car for me.

Well if you’re just porting the stock stuff there should be no reason to have to tune anything. It’s when you go after market cam and or heads you needed to worry about a tune. Gears imo are the best bang for the buck that's what's going to keep your car in its power range.
Also your letting all this extra air in but can you let it all out *cough* exhaust *cough*:D

oh yeah unfortunatly Murphy owns all :nonono:.

No one who has used Mikes' and my lower (or just Mikes' heads or just my lower) has had a problem after assembly as long as the heads and intake seal up with proper install and torqueing. The EEC will adapt to the increase flow very quickly. DO reset your EEC memery be removing the negative battery lead for 20 minutes after ANY mod.
