Hi, maybe someone can help me. I own a relatively stock 96 mystic cobra that has a cooling issue. The car is originally from the south but has been brought Idaho and can not handle the 90 degree plus days in the summer. She only has 32K on it and runs nice when its cold. I have researched this quite extensively and found there was a factory problem with the first year 4 V 4.6 liter but only some cars where affected. I was told by a dealer employed SVT mech that I need to pull the honey comb grill and just replace the rad. Finally to the question does anyone know if a 97-04 radiator will fit in the 96 and what are the difference if there are any? Thanks for reading my book. Jason BTW I already did all the easy stuff like wetter water, pull the termo ect.

They actually had a recall on them for a cooling problem. Call your local dealer with the VIN and ask them to check for open recalls.

Yes, later radiators are interchangeable.

Thanks

Yea I've been down that road with those dealer pricks. They tell me the recall will only apply to my stang if the computer shuts the car off (thermo protection). Two dealers told me its normal for the car to run between the L in (normal) and the red in the hot area, but I always take preventive measures and turn heater on, up the RPM's in neutral etc. I don't fell comfortable running an all aluminum engine that hot...

The following two threads should answer all of your 96 specific cooling questions:

Thanks

Thanks guys for all your help. I'll be shopping for a condensor and not a radiator. I'll just fix it one part at a time untill it runs where i'm happy.

I am in Idaho and my 97 Cobra temp gauge sits smack in the middle even in last months 105 heat, sitting in traffic with the AC full blast. I didn't read the links to Corral so not sure what the real issue is but I can say the 97 radiator does it's job rather well.

I had a custome radiator built for my car. It is over twice the thickness as stock, and mine went from the L down to the O, even with the supercharger, it runs cool as can be. Very well worth the 330 dollars I spent.

i have a 96 cobra. Tried to put a 03 cobra radiator in but it was too tall. I had cooling issues as well about 3 years ago. All i did was replace the radiator with a factory stock unit and have never had a problem again
