Did you ever get all your stuff installed into the GT before you got rid of it? Didn't you have heads/cams etc waiting to go in?

yep, the guy that bought my car already knew about all the stuff that was on my new motor, and he was aware of what a deal I got for it . Hes a regular spectator at the shop and had been looking at a fox but decided to make a offer on my car and see if I took it, my car or his car now is still in the shop and the motor is still going in but I wont be driveing it . Mabye he will let me test drive it once or twice .

I do find it strange that I know guys that made 260+ RWHP with NPI heads, comp NPI cams and NPI plastic intake, all naturally aspirated. I also know of people who made over 300+ RWHP with NPI heads, PI intakes and comp PI cams, all naturally aspirated. These cars were not mustangs, they were TBirds that have 4R70W auto transmissions and IRS. That means they lose more power to the wheels than even an 4R70W auto equipped mustang does.

I must say, I don't know anyone with non-ported heads and the stock intake making that kinda HP. Very impressive!!

Glad i got rid of my 96 GT auto, and stepped up to a 97 cobra coupe. It cost way to much $$$ to ever make a 96-98 gt fast, all the money u spend on mods, u could just pick up a 96-98 cobra and its already fast stock. Recentley in "Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords" magazine they built up a non pi stang with pretty much everything you could bolt on besides a supercharger, and I think they might have ported the heads too, and they maxed out at only 236 hp to the rear wheels. Thats not worth it if you ask me, because it would probably cost a few grand just to get those results.

Hmmm...I dyno'd at 230 on a Mustang Dyno in my 145K mile, NPI 96. A guessimate on a Dynojet would put me over 236? I'm not close to the end of bolt-ons since long tubes and a port and polish of the heads could net another 25-30.

No, not with that NPI intake it wont....unless the heads were ported. That intake is a BOTTLE NECK, flow SUCKS. And through an auto what your saying is untrue. No way a NPI head/cam/PI intake AUTO will go 300RWHP. Just NOT happening...unless the dyno is jacked .

Now if those cars have ported heads, then I can believe it. But not stock heads. I have stock better flowing PI heads, AND a 5spd...I make 292. A hotter cam will not add the 30 HP required for an auto/IRS to make 300.

Im sure Adrenln will say teh same thing if he reads this...He also knows how hard it is to get 300RWHP from a M5 car...auto, it will not happen with stock heads. Bottom line.

BTW people, IRS seems to rob about 10RWHP on the vettes vs the F bodys...same motor, and the vette has better exhaust. FWI about the HP robbing of IRS.

Ok. I just got a set of comp cams installed in my car...the car sounds sweet and i bounce in my seat when im sitting at a light, and according to dyno results gave me a strong 30hp to the wheels...however to make your GT run faster than a civic after getting the cams in you have to have your car chiped, becuase the stock computer cannot keep up with the cams and is not throughing gas down the valves at the right time...the chip well set you back another 400 if you have it done right...i didn't know about that, but by the time i found out i need a chip it was too late...however the good side to the chip is it adds another 15-20 hp on top of the 30 the cams gave you...just thought i'de let everone know...

Its already known that its a good idea to get a dyno tune or have a mail order chip installed.

and a civc? WTF, most dogs can out run a damn civic.

In my above thread the NPI heads were ported. That said, I know of cars that made over 300 RWHP with NPI heads( ported ), comp PI cams and a plastic PI intake, naturally aspirated. This car went 12.87 in the 1/4 through a 4R70W and IRS with the car weighing 3650 lbs and the driver is 180 lbs, total weight 3830 lbs. This car now runs a ported Bullitt intake and is running 12.3's.

thanks TGJ, thats what i was wondering. Now I can believe the HP #s.

BTW Ported NPI heads actually flow more than P&Pd PI heads in most cases. So thats definatly no surprise....and ported PIs on an NPI motor should not increase compression at all if they remove that chunck of turbulence inducing materal near the valve. (Just an FWI for the NPI guys..I know you didnt say anything about that)

All I'm saying is that it's really hard to rock the car I've wanted since I was in highschool when I'm getting beat up by Si civics and modded out little ricers left and right. It's hard to swing a dead cat at the track up here and not tag a turboed B18 civic up here or something worse. I'm beginning to think the short throw and the CAI will be my last mods.

Don't give up man. When all my parts are in my 96 GT, I'll have about 270rwhp if not more. I'll have about $10,000 in the car including the cost of the car itself and labor, and my car only had 55k miles on it when I bought it. Around here a 96 cobra with 100k miles on it still goes for about $9500, and that's private party. Not to mention that when you start beating people, you can say "Yea, and I did it with an N/A 2v." Just my 2 cents.

Have you taken your car to the track with your current mods? I'd be interested in what kind of times I can expect with different levels of bolt-ons so I'd have an idea of what kind of bracket I would end up in.

All you really need to do is spend about 1600 and buy a PI head/intake kit, along with some VT stg 1 cams. get that tuned and your looking @ 280ish RWHP with maybe a nice midpipe. So for a TOTAL of 2300ish you can go from low 15s to LOW 13s. Should trap about 105+ easy. No more N/A civics beating that.

It's fairly involved, but if you take your time and you're mechanically inclined it's not too bad. I did mine in about 10 hours, including an oil change. Pick yourself up a good shop manual before you start though [factory Ford is the best]
