96-98 guys beware

if you 96 to 98Gt guys want a easy fix to the civic issue.......trade and get a Cobra, I did :nice:
nah, 99 cobra's don't do it for me looks wise. 98 maybe :D
Did you ever get all your stuff installed into the GT before you got rid of it? Didn't you have heads/cams etc waiting to go in?

To AntiRice98: What type of cams did you install and I'm assuming you've done the PI swap. Just that your claims of up to 50 rwhp are a little inflated. Cams are hotly debated here and it's a well known fact that if you install them that you should get a tune (stage 1's) or you most definately NEED a tune (more aggressive stage 2's). I'm just another '98 who's comtemplating cams but I'll do my research before jumping in.

Just a little advice to ask questions and do research before the board changes your name to Captain Obvious.

Come on now, the kids 17. He'll get there the same way we did. One loss at a time. It still blows me away that the stock 05 Si Civic runs the 1/4 mi in 15.1.

The best time I've seen posted for a stock Mustang GT 98 is 15.4. I had the oppertunity to race one of these, I have a K&N air filter and a fresh tune up with ford racing 9mm wires and some royal purple on my side and all I saw was tail lights. The kid had been running the car for less than a week and he stomped me. Not to mention the need to upgrade my intake because it fails, and the need for PI heads before I can get any real improvement from my stang, and it's really turning me off to tuning it. When I have to dump $1k into a V8 just to keep up with a naturally aspirated 4 cyc commuter car, it really puts a dent in my morale.

Your comparing an now 8 year car at that to a new one. When you start going down that road, you can play all kinds of head games. Point should be that out of the box, the newer cars are damn fast and the older ones need to be modified to keep up and/or surpass. Also that new Civic Si is tuned very aggressivly, fairly maxed out N/A, runs on premium fuel, has exhaust and intake etc...

Glad i got rid of my 96 GT auto, and stepped up to a 97 cobra coupe. It cost way to much $$$ to ever make a 96-98 gt fast, all the money u spend on mods, u could just pick up a 96-98 cobra and its already fast stock. Recentley in "Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords" magazine they built up a non pi stang with pretty much everything you could bolt on besides a supercharger, and I think they might have ported the heads too, and they maxed out at only 236 hp to the rear wheels. Thats not worth it if you ask me, because it would probably cost a few grand just to get those results.

Actually, they got it all the way to 355 at the crank, so it had more than 236 at the wheels, after a set of ported, polished heads, new, but stock bottom end, cams, and a different intake

Ok so it was around 236 b4 they did the ported and polished heads, so what i meant was with all the usual bolt ons with a non pi motor you wont get much out of it. Check the issue b4 the one u r referring 2.

Like i said its no disrespect to the 96-98 Gt owners without the pi swap. I drove one for 2 years, and the mods included frpp shorty headers, bassani catted x pipe, flowmaster catback, and a K&N fipk. I think all that alone cast me arond $1500 and honestly the car was stiil slow. Granted it was an automatic though. I wanted to do the pi swap at one time though, but it was too much cash just to gain 45-50 horses. I decided to sell the gt while it still had low miles,(73,000) and pick up a 97 cobra with fairly low miles. I got 6,500 for my gt and found my cobra with 88,000 miles for 10,000 after tax from a local dealer. the PI swap costs a few grand anyway, unless you buy used parts, and do the work yourself, and i wasnt ready to do a project like that. I will say the gt was a better daily driver than my cobra though.

I'm putting a Mach 1 engine in my friends 98GT with LT headers and JLT intake. With the 4.10's out back he should get a huge gain in power.
Now thats a mod thats worth it. I bet after its all said and done it would be cheaper to drop that engine in the car than to try to make the non pi motor that powerful, which is impossible anyway.

Huh??? Who are you referring to?

Thread starter lol...sorry. I can understand most people just fine. Just a few that cut corners like this. "yo dog wat u goin 2 du wit dat mad tite air fltr setn on ur shlf ovr der?" lol
I CAN read it, but when they are asking questions and typing like that + skipping from one subject to the next randomly, its hard to really grasp what they are asking.

I never did have much respect for MM&FF. They print to much bull ****.

I do find it strange that I know guys that made 260+ RWHP with NPI heads, comp NPI cams and NPI plastic intake, all naturally aspirated. I also know of people who made over 300+ RWHP with NPI heads, PI intakes and comp PI cams, all naturally aspirated. These cars were not mustangs, they were TBirds that have 4R70W auto transmissions and IRS. That means they lose more power to the wheels than even an 4R70W auto equipped mustang does.
