Other way around my friend. PI heads on early Non PI engines will raise your compression ratio, not lower it.

You may also need to swap out your current timing cover and accesories as well....and you'll need to find yourself the proper set of valve covers. The Crown Vic has the oil fill level on the opposite side (drivers) as opposed to your 2000 Mustang, that will have it on the passenger side. And the covers aren't interchangeable since your 2000 utilizes a Windsor long block and the '96 Crown Vic I believe utilizes a Romeo long block. There are probably some other minor differences between the two as well, but you're not likely to notice them until you're elbows deep.....so keep a few dollars aside for incidentals.
