96 gt burning oil

my 96 high mileage gt is burning oil,not to the point there is a smokescreen,but you can smell it burning coming from the tailpipes

should I start off with a leakdown test?

seems to me its rings,cause it doesnt clear up after running for a while.

what about an engine swap,and please bear with me since im relatively new to the SN95s

what year 4.6s will work in my 96.

other ford models? crown vic.thunderbird.

how about a 4.6 dohc swap?

Try Castrol GTX high mile, use little bit thicker weight then usual.

How many miles are on it?

How often do you have to add oil - how many miles and how much oil?

Do you get a puff of smoke when you pull away from a long stoplight? If so, it's likely just the valve stem seals. Otherwise you'll need to do a compression and leakdown test.
