The engine probably has issues. Even a bone stock 96-01 Cobra should put you in the seat especially after 3250 rpms(except the 99/01). it would be more noticeable if it had a gear too. I bet there is an issue.

Sorry I misread, sounds like 373s for sure if its 5spd, my 97 with 4.10s ran around 2500rpms

The difference between the 2V and 4V down low (under 2500 RPMs) is minimal...and heavily dependent on the final drive ratio (and transmission type). But at around 3K, forget it. The 4V pulls like a freight train compared to the 2V...and will make power all the way up to its (higher) redline.

My advice...walk away.

I doubt there's anything wrong with the car making it slower, it's just a stock Cobra with stock gears, and he didn't drive it hard. Slow and un-impressive sounds about right.

Until you take it wide open and run it to the redline on an otherwise stock car, it won't be impressive. It'd feel better with steep gears, but assuming it has 3.27's it's just a turd until you give it room to run.

He said he was redlining the car when he was driving. He would have noticed either the performance it has or the lack of performance.

Good call, I read his post probably 5 times and for some reason I thought he was saying "I wasn't redlining that ****", but he really said he was...

In that case, may be something wrong with it.
