Need more info.

'97 GT and Cobra has a t-45 that will not fit.

'97 V6 does have a T-5 and can be made to work

IT can be made to fit but you might as well just search around and get one that is for your car. Switching it over isn't worth it in the end.

well i have it right now and it looks just like my t-5. do the t-45 looks the same as the t-5? Also does anyone know the rating of the 97 v6 t-5 (hp and torque rating)? I compared the 97 trans next to my t5 and it all looks the same. Driveshaft fits on it and the front is the same length.

Biggest difference is that you can remove the bellhousing on the T-5 while on the T-45 you cannot. It's part of the trans.

If it is a t-5 i beleive it's rated at 300 ft-lbs.

The input shaft is longer and you cannot swap it with a 5.0 input.

The input shaft on the t-5 or t-45?

on the t-5.

94+ T-5's use a longer input shaft.

On the 94-95 V8 T-5 you can swap it with an input from a Fox, but you can't do that with the V6 T-5

Should be about 5/8"

Do you see a buck tag located on the trans? It should be bolted to one of the tailhousing bolts.

If it's there, can you read the numbers off it and post them.

This is not worth your trouble, if in fact it's a t5. Sell that one and get the right transmission. May go in, but likely the input shaft will bind up and not spin.
No t5 is worth an input shaft swap IMO. (if in this case it can even be swapped at all).

Trans 238 is what you want to look under

http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/T5ID.htm

It comes back as a '94-97 3.8L T-5 trans.

Yes, that extra 1/2" would make a difference.

Do you have your original T-5? You need to swap the input shaft and bearing retainer over to the V6 T-5 to make it work. This MAY NOT work as te gear ratios would need to be identical. I do not know if a Fox input will work in a V6 trans. If you have one handy you can try to swap them, but i wouldn't make you spend $$$ to do so.

Keep in mind this trans is weaker...only rated at 265 ft-lbs of torque
