just as the question asks. Im looking to build a 92 lx that i have probbally around 400 hp but im on a budget. I can get a good 99 gt tranny 5 speed cheap but will it fix and is it better?

And this surprises you how?_jb_ said:LOL, why the hell did Ford put a tranny rated at 265ftlbs in a car that has stock 300ftlbs?

In stock form, the traction is the limiting factor so it helps save the trans. Once the car is modded, warranty issues arise. And even so, that is why the 94-95 GT's have Tip-in Retard (not a basketball reference.).

Yep. And we are talking 94-95's here - no tip in or shift retard on fox III's._jb_ said:Even in autos?
what were the 96-99 cobra's rated at, out of curiousityMustang5L5 said:Yes it is stronger, but it only bolts up to the 4.6L motor.
The torque ratings are as follows.
85-89 T-5 = 265 ft-lbs
90-95 T-5 = 300 ft-lbs
93-95 Cobra T-5 = 310 ft-lbs
96-00 T-45 = 330 ft-lbs
01+ T-3650 = 360 ft-lbs.
Mustang5L5 said:You can't. The bellhousing is PART of the trans itself. It's a totally different design than a T-5.
Swapping bellhousings would require you to cut it off and weld another one on![]()
You would spend more money to get it to fit than a better trans would cost, even if you could get it to fit. The stock input shaft probably would be too short because of the extra thickness of the adapter plate.tbadair said:what about an adapter plate between the bellhousing and engine?
