Yes it is stronger, but it only bolts up to the 4.6L motor.

The torque ratings are as follows.

85-89 T-5 = 265 ft-lbs
90-95 T-5 = 300 ft-lbs
93-95 Cobra T-5 = 310 ft-lbs
96-00 T-45 = 330 ft-lbs
01+ T-3650 = 360 ft-lbs.

LOL, why the hell did Ford put a tranny rated at 265ftlbs in a car that has stock 300ftlbs?

And this surprises you how?

In stock form, the traction is the limiting factor so it helps save the trans. Once the car is modded, warranty issues arise. And even so, that is why the 94-95 GT's have Tip-in Retard (not a basketball reference. ).

Why cant you get another belhousing for the tranny? Seems simple enough. How does the input shaft compare with that of the V8 T-5?

You can't. The bellhousing is PART of the trans itself. It's a totally different design than a T-5.

Swapping bellhousings would require you to cut it off and weld another one on

What does a "Tip-in Retard" do?

Yep. And we are talking 94-95's here - no tip in or shift retard on fox III's.

You would spend more money to get it to fit than a better trans would cost, even if you could get it to fit. The stock input shaft probably would be too short because of the extra thickness of the adapter plate.

I think 330 ft-lbs as well. They use the t-45, but unsure if they got a better version

Once again, beat down by jrichker.... when will it end. Just joking, I just wanted to tell you ( jrichker) thanks for all the articles and help you have passed down. My door locks work like brand new and the tech help you give is excellent.
