In stock form, the traction is the limiting factor so it helps save the trans. Once the car is modded, warranty issues arise. And even so, that is why the 94-95 GT's have Tip-in Retard (not a basketball reference.).

85-89 T-5 = 265 ft-lbs
90-95 T-5 = 300 ft-lbs
93-95 Cobra T-5 = 310 ft-lbs
96-00 T-45 = 330 ft-lbs
01+ T-3650 = 360 ft-lbs.
