99 gt wont start...HELP!

If it turns over the first things to check are fuel and spark.

Im sure you have already checked but dont forget the fuses,could have a blown fuel pump fuse,ECM fuse or whatever else is in there,I havent looked in mine in 3 or 4 years.

Isn't there some kind of fuel reset switch in the trunk? Did you try that?

Check your fuses... Maybe somehow you blew your fuel pump fuse?

when you turn the key on, listen for the fuel pump.

Also like the above said listen for the fuel pump when you turn the key,but also just because you can hear it,it doesnt always mean that its pushing enough pressure to start the car.Electric fuel pumps require more pressure to start than to run the motor.I had this problem on another car,would turn over but not start,if all else fails a descent shop would be able to test the pressure.just something more to think about.

My car did this a few times, its was PATS acting up, I disconnected the battery for 15, and pow it started right up.

thanks for the feed back guys...i checked everything possible...today after work i went and started it up it was fine i warmed it up drove it down the block and back parked turned it off and tryed to start it again and it would start...it seems like after it runs for a few mintues and then turn it off it wont start again...

ihave no idea what is wrong the only thing i can think of because it sat for so long it has to fully get all the corks out

Try quarter throttle when starting the car... could be IACV.

If a temp sensor wire goes out, it could show open high resistance and flood the car out when your trying to start it.

If 1/4 throttle does not get her to fire... go WOT and see if the car will start.

I've had wires open up after a car was warm and cause all sorts of diagnosing havak. Because it just ran fine means one of the important inputs is temporarily out of service.

If you went 1/4 throttle for 5 seconds of cranking and nothing happend, then after letting it set for a min tried the WOT for 5 seconds of cranking with no avail:

1) You are probably missing ignition, but not necessarily. I've had an A6 that would do the same thing you are describing, but it did show an ambient air temp sensor code.

2) Whatever tiny bit of fuel left in the rail would cause the car to atleast hick up.


If you had a factory shop manual... you could probe the back side of the confuser to check to see if the crank, cam sensors were feeding into the computer.

When the car does not start... See if there is spark at one of the plugs... If you have a 99 I believe you have wires, not COP's so pop off a wire, insert a screw driver or spare plug and set the ground strap by something metal. Have your wife or buddy crank the car to see if there is spark at the plug... If there is spark, then that is not the problem then we need to chase down fuel. If there is no spark it could be your PATS system.

Find a connection point that runs to your fuel pump. When the car doesn't start, see if you have B+ at the pump and double check the pump ground.

I don't have a schematic to see if ford controls ground on the relay for the fuel pump with B+ being consistant.

If you have spark and you obviously have air, pull a plug and see if it is wet or dry.

If it is dry, you need to borrow a fuel tool from autozone and tap into the fuel system. I know my 04 doesn't have a schrader on it, but I'm not certain if your 99 does or does not have it.

Had a similar problem with my 99 a few months ago...

When it won't start, check the cluster to see if the theft light is flashing....

Apparently there is a wiring harness in the column that goes bad if you use the
tilt wheel frequently. I had it replaced and it's been fine ever since... If the
light is flashing, turn the key off an tilt the wheel the opposite direction, then
turn the key back on and the car will usually start...

that's an easy try.

35th... make sure the theft light is flashing and try re-adj the column for giggles.
