A/C: Who changed their low pressure switch?

Hi guys, I determined my low pressure switch is bad for the a/c. The pressure was borderline low when I jumped the connector. I recharged it to about 30psi to put it back into the full range and the compressor still won't engage with the pressure switch connected. I guess that means it's bad. Okay now my question... do I have to get someone to evacuate the system to change the switch? Then recharge it? Also, is there anywhere known besides the dealer that carries the switch? I've looked and it doesn't look like an item autoparts stores regularly carry. Thanks guys!

To find out if its bad, unplug it and use a jumper wire to see if the compressor comes on. If if does come on, then the low pressure switch is bad. To replace it, all you do is unscrew it and screw the new one in. I did not lose any freon when I replaced mine. I got one at Autozone, its been on there for almost three years, but I think it has gone bad again. I think it was about $10 or so.

Oh, and make sure they are looking up the proper part. I can't tell you how many times I called these dumb a$$es at these auto parts stores and they say they don't have it.. then, I go in and viola!, they find it. If they don't know where to look in there computer, they'll never find it. That low pressure plug is used on literally EVERY SINGLE FORD car from mid 80's till now.

I'm located in the tri-state area (Delaware) i've searched for it on autozone's, advance auto's, and napa's search engines but didn't check pepboys out yet. I guess i'll call all them stores tomorrow to re-confirm.

Ok, eveidently WELLS inc. stopped making the part which is why Autozone doesn't have it. Neither does Advanced. So I called carquest and they do carry it. 18.38$. Their part number for it is: CTC207404

I'm almost positive Napa will have it being that they make alot of their own parts.

If all else fails, I'll go buy one and send it up to ya.

got mine from Advance: $20. simply disconnected and unscrewed the old one, screwed the new one and reconnected it and voila--compressor kicked in and a/c worked.

i have a leak somewhere, now, though... p.o.s.

Have it recharged and have them put some dye in it to find your leak ;) . On mine it turned out to be the condenser and it looked brand new so that would have probaly have been the last place I looked. It costed alittle more at the time to get the dye put in, but it saved me lots of money down the road.

Thanks guys!!! I found the switch today at NAPA and put it on and the A/C is back to blowing cold! Thanks again!

For future reference:

Ford OEM #: F3AH-19E561-AA $30.60
NAPA #: 707404 $21.69
Carquest #: CTC207404 $18.38

Also, you won't have much luck searching for "low pressure switch". Ford calls it "pressure cycling switch"
