a/c or no a/c?????????

i deleted mine cause with the 351W swap the headers were touching the return lines and heating up the intake temperature to my radiator, causing the car to run extremely hot. Plus the hot return lines didn't lend itself to cool air in the car either. If I can find some lines to re-run to avoid the problem, it will be back in and charged ina second.

By the way......the purpose of the AC delete isn't because of drag from the AC pully....it's to run a shorter belt. Shorter belt equals less drag, not to mention less weight from everything being removed. The kits that simply substitute the AC with an idle pully are absolutely worthless.

Factory A/C delete

Not having it doesn't really make much of a difference to me..I don't miss it.

Yes and no. While the idler pulley type delete kits (like the crap one I bought from UPR) look silly and don't add any power, they do still shave a bit of dead weight by allowing you to ditch all of the A/C stuff, are simpler to deal with in the long run by letting you buy an OEM-length belt, and in some weird cases (like mine) where a person wants to delete the power steering but keep the smog pump, it makes routing the belt a lot less of a headache because then the idler pulley really does act as an idler pulley (instead of an underhood billet bling-bling replacement piece). Otherwise, such as in my case, I'd have to get one of those weird alternator bracket tensioner things to run a serpentine belt without having to change over to a standard-rotation water pump, as well.

But yeah, for 90% of the folks wanting to ditch their A/C, the idler pulley delete kits are poo.

The a/c compressor pulley does have some 'friction' over a standard pulley.

It is a combo of the pulley friction, shorter belt, and the 20-25lbs or so of weight.

Weight well worth it...

.hey do they make a ac install kit..lol..i have a facotry ac delete car and umm i want ac. delaware summers are hot and humid plus my car is like an oven anyways.

It was always my understanding that the rule of "the shortest path is often the path of least resistance" and therefor even though a pully is absolutely free spinning, the fact that the belt has to wrap around it means that it takes more power to turn that pully than if it wasn't there at all. Of course we're talking about fractions in difference between a free spinning pully and no pully at all, but for scientific purposes there is still a difference.

Darkwriter77 i totally understand what you're saying....there's a lot to be said about convenience....BUT....consider that not all cars came with AC, and the ones that didn't still had a smog pump...so you should still be able to buy an OEM length belt as long as you specify that it's a non-AC car (the Ford delete bracket is the same parts used on AC delete cars).

I was going to delete my A/C for a while and i never got around to it, and i am glad i didnt. i dont drive the car much, but when i do it makes it a nice ride. plus people freak out when they ride with me, when it runs good they realize the A/C is on and they think its amazing, the are lead to believe the A/C sucks 400hp lol

they dont realize that it shuts off at WOT.

A/C makes or breaks a street car IMO

I live in WA state and removed mine - don't need it in this state, and I always drive with the windows down anyway - even in the rain!!
The FMS AC delete is the best way to delete the AC rather than use the idler pulleys - looks much cleaner IMHO.
If you keep the AC, at WOT, the computer turns off the AC anyway, so there isn't much to be gained in removing it other than cleaning up the engine bay, and removing weight which were the two reasons I removed it.

True, but one track by me....it is a mom and pop back yard track pretty much! They don't care about anything, and they have almost no rules! They have two outhouses and they have a little shack to pick up your time slip. It is sad, but it was fun when I had a Procharged conv GT running 12's and they didn't say anything!!

I will not drive my car if I have to have the windows up, and New York only requires a smog test on model years newer than 1996. So it was with great pleasure that I tossed the smog pump, lines and A/C stuff in the trash.
