I have a stock 69 mach1 in very good condition, and in show condition.

Every thing works accept the a/c.

I'm nearing the time to get the a/c system fixed(right now it is all connected but not functioning).

The question is should I go with the Sanden compressor or rebuilt York compressor? How do cars with Sanden get judged?

There are several advantages with the Sanden, less parassitic HP, smaller, lighter et all.

But not stock looking.

suggestions?

Thanks

Chris

First, let me say I have a Sanden and I love it. When I fire it up, people don't look panicked because it sounds like I've thrown a rod!

If you show in anything but a driver category, you'll need a York. (I could be wrong and, if I am, I'm sure people will correct me! ) When I show in judged shows, I always go in Daily Driver, so it isn't a big deal--the hood is closed anyway.

So, if you drive it, go with Sanden.

What I did, that I wished I hadn't, was go to 134a. It is a double edged sword--I can't get as good cooling from my 134a as I did with R-12. System just isn't designed to work with the much higher pressure 134a. However, after having just put one can of R-12 into my toyota truck this weekend, and spending ~$75 for it, I can certainly see the lure of 134a.

You might want to think of some of the other almost r-12 gasses on the line that work like R-12, but don't cost an arm and a leg.

I went with 134a because I figured that I'd lose some coolant in the system over time and R-12 isn't getting cheaper.

Wrong.

I haven't lost one spec of 134a in over three years. In fact, it is one of the few systems on my 66 that doesn't seep! Go figure. They one thing I want to seep so I can replace it and feel good about myself is tight as Fort Knox.

YMMV, but weigh the options. IMHO, Driver = Sanden. Shower = York.
