A couple questions about Powerslot rotors

My brakes are starting to warp, so I will need to do rotors and pads all around. Since my calipers are still good, I have decided to keep stock sized rotors, but I don't want to cheap out on them. I was looking at these: Powerslot fronts and Powerslot rears . I have a couple of questions:
1. Will these rotors be a direct replacement for the stockers, without any modifications?
2. What pads would go best with those rotors and stock calipers. AmericanMuscle.com recommends Hawk pads, but I have heard of squealing issues with those... is this true?

Please don't recommend a cobra brake upgrade to me, I have considered that but I've decided it might be too much for me to handle without the correct tools and proper help. Thanks for the help! :)
 
had them and loved them, good budget rotor, you'll also see debates about the slots being backwards and it's been said by powerslot that you can switch the L with the R side and vica-virca just as long as you don't have 2 of the same sides on each side, dont know about the hawk pads, they do claim they might be louder than stock but they are work the extra stopping power over stock pads, EBC green stuff is another recommendation

ah tom, you da man! Thanks for sharing your experience. I see that AM.com also sells the EBC pads, so I'll look into picking up those when I purchase the rotors. I'm not sure what you're saying about the slots though... if I purchase the pair, are you saying it doesn't matter which side I put the rotors on? I would assume that they ship you a L and R rotor. Sorry, this is my first brake job so I'm a little slow!

99% of slotted rotors, the slots face one direction, the 1% which would be the power slots face the other side, this link with help you understand better

well for some reason i'm retarded and can't understand what you're talking about :( But I guess if I have the slots facing the way the show it on that website (maybe by switching L and R), then I should be ok. Am I right in thinking that? thanks!

The direction is determined by the direction of the vents INSIDE the rotor. On directional rotors, the vents are slanted and the tops of the slant vent AWAY from the direct of travel as if they are trailing.

On rotors with straight vents, the direction doesn't matter. In this case, it doesn't matter what directions the slots go because they are not directing airflow, but offering a place for spent brake dust to escape from the rotor/pad surface.

Personally, i would rather buy some Brembo Blanks rotors from tirerack.com instead of powerslots. I beleive the Brembos can take more abuse and are pretty cheap.

As for Pads, the hawks offer good performance but they are well known for generating a lot of dust and/or making noise. Definitely stay away from cheap parts store pads, they will make noise like crazy. Best pads? The stock OEM pads are actually pretty good. Motorcraft pads are not the same and are slightly lesser in performance than Ford OEM.

Oh and StangGT97, if you can take the front brakes off to change rotors, then you can do the cobra upgrade. Only additional step really is to transfer the brake lines and bleed them
 
Mustang5L5, thanks for the input. I'm not sure the direction I'm taking this right now, I may just hold off a couple months til I get back home and have a friend help me out. That would make me feel a little more comfortable with the brake job. If I screw something up while I'm out here, or find I don't have a certain tool, then I dont really have a way of getting to a parts store. Like I said, the brakes aren't horrible, but they will need to be done in the not too distant future. I will look into the brembos, and I guess I will keep the cobra brakes as a possibility.

edit - holy crap! you weren't lying about the Brembo's being cheap! what gives? I would have expected them to be pretty expensive. ($47/ea front, $34/ea rear). That's an awesome price

I know huh? That's pretty damn close to parts store rotor prices basically. The only really expensive brembo rotors are their slotted and crossdrilled stuff. Their blank rotors have always been cheap. They are becoming an OEM supplier now, so i guess production is up and costs are down
 
Powerslots are excellent rotors for the price v. performance. Be cautioned that if you go with Brembo cross drilled rotors, there have been reports of breakage after resurfacing.
Hawk pads are noisy and dusty as hell..............but they stop great! I've never tried the Green Stuff, but I might give them a try next season.

I wouldn't be doing with a drilled rotor, the ones Mustang5L5 are just vented blanks, like the stockers. I bet those would take some serious abuse, which is great because I'm very easy on my car so they should last a while. For what they cost, I guess I can't go wrong. The power slots look nice too, but if the slots don't do much for braking performance, I will just keep the extra money and go for the brembo blanks.

Yeah the crappy ass duralast rotors at autozone are almost the same price as the Brembos. Thank you supply & demand! :)
