I want to use an A/F guage but my car has no o2 sensor. I was told I could weld one into the exhaust and connect it to the guage but that is unreliable and doesn't read very accurate.. They said I'd need to get a wideband guage that would cost me ~$400... Anyone have any information on this? Buying just a regular $100 autometer a/f guage and using it on your mustang and getting a decent ballpark idea of if you're running rich/lean??? Or will I NEED to get a wideband one for even a semi accurate reading?

you need a wideband if you want to reliably infer anything from it. otherwise it is sorta like trying to diagnose an electrical system with a voltmeter that reads from 11.5 to 12.5 volts.

good luck.

I have an Autometer A/F gauge and its useless. Pretty... but useless. Acutally it always reads lean for me which isn't the case. You are better off with any other gauge than a non-wideband A/F gauge.

A non wideband a/f gauge is all for looks, it's inaccurate. Try reading it under full load (foot to the floor driving), you'll likely land up on someones front lawn.

Most wide band kits record your a/f ratio so you can look at them on your laptop computer.
