I finally got some money gathered up to start mods on my car and I wanted to start with suspension since mine is nearly shot. Car is somewhat of a daily driver and I wanna make a few passes down the drag strip later on when I get some other things completed. But my question is which setup would be best for what I wanna do with it. Should I run a coilover set up or not? The car is an auto so it won't ever see any autocrossing or twisty racing of any sort. I'd like to get a few ideas of what setups you guys are running. Oh yea I also wanna get a good set of subframe connectors so mention those if you can. Thanks for the help guys.

sub frame connectors are the best thing to happen to a fox. i love mine. best money ive spent on my car. make sure there welded in. then all you really need is a strut tower brace, new shocks and struts and springs. that gets you a long way.

i only drag my car when i go to the track i just got a set of lakewood drag shocks and struts.

for a steet car that could do both, or not really go at all. and the shocks and struts need replacing i'd look into a good adjustable shock. you can adjust it for a good ride in town. if you feel like carving some windy back roads in you area you can tighten them up for performance around the corner. if you feel the need for better weight transfer or ever want to head to the drag strip you can loosen up the front and and get better tracion off the line.

if your going to replace them i'd just upgrade.

Yea nearly everything suspension wise is due for replacement on my car right now so I'm just tryin to through as much as I can without havin to take it apart again. I looked at the lakewood shocks but if you say go with adjustable I'm guessin I should go with the Kyb adjustable shocks and struts then, Steeda sport springs, along with a maximum motorsports subframe connectors. Should that have me pretty well covered? I know this might be a dumb question but can someone explain the front suspension a lil better? Most of the kits I look at don't offer front shocks are the struts doing the same task? Whats the deal on that? I'm an electrician by day and far far away from being a mechanic at night I'm just tryin to learn a lil and I got an idea of where I wanna go with my ride. So any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks again guys

I'm currently doing the same thing.

Replace the axle side bushing on the upper control arm if/when you place the control arms. I went with maximum motorsports lowers and FRPP uppers and I love them. Replace the spring isolators, the stock ones are probably all dried and crushed. Unless you want to play with ride height I'd leave the springs. They don't really wear out. I have some ford letter springs and I can't wait to change them out. They suck on NE roads. New shocks (Tokico blues are highly recommended entry shocks over on the corral), IMHO stay away from KYBs I have non adjustibles on my car and hate them and I've found thats a universal response to all thier products. Oh and yes get sfc's if you don't have them. Biggest imporvement I saw. I can jack up one side of my car and the the other side will come up with it. Blew my father inlaw away.

Are you planning on tightening up the front?

Yea I'd like to do what I can I got around an 800 dollar budget right now somethings will have to wait for another paycheck but I would like to have my suspension and tranny work completed before adding any hp. I did see a tokico suspension kit so I guess I could go with that over the kyb's then. What would I need to tighten the front up on the car? I often see the bars going across the top of the engine I dont have any idea of what their called but I imagine they have some relation to handling. I see people with panhard bar upgrades I'm a little unsure of how that functions and so on but like I said I'm still learning so I'm kinda feeding off what I read here.

Yah shocks and struts are basicly the same thing. A strut has the lower mounting points on ist side instead of bottom. Also struts almost always have the spring around them. Guy named McPherson invented them before I was born.

I just put Lakewood 50/50's on the rear and 70/30's up front. Ride is good, the rear is a lil stiff but overall I 'm happy w/ my choice. Subframes as already mentioned are a good idea. I have mac solid lowers and CHE double adjustable uppers waiting to go in. (Ran out of time on Sat)
